If Jimmy Anderson started his career 5 years later, would he be higher regarded?

If he started his career when he was older and better, slightly less longevity, but better career stats. Would his doubters be less numerous?

can the fantasy version average under 30 away and swing something that isn't a duke?

if not, no. besides, early anderson pitched the kookaburra up enough to actually swing it.

I'm sitting here (dumbfounded as usual about the utter stupidity this forum shows towards Jimmy Anderson) and I was thinking........I wish this place had a better search facility. I would love to find out how many threads have been started with James Andersons name in the title compared to say, Glenn Mcgrath, Malcolm Marshall, Hadlee etc......and then to see how many of the JA threads have been started by English fans.

We don't overate him....but you ***** sure are obsessed with him.

No because the problem around Anderson discourse is parochialism. Alec Stewart and Burgey would sadly both still exist.

I don't get the Anderson-bashing personally. He's a great player, takes bucket loads of wickets & wins games of cricket for his country. We should be enjoying him notch up these records just like when Courtney Walsh was doing it back in the day. I have always loved watching swing bowlers in action on a greentop, it's one of the more exciting facets the game has to offer. Yes, Jimmeh is more successful when playing in home conditions & the media probably does over-rate him, but the over-proliferation of anti-Anderson on here is just so peculiar.

To answer the OP, yes of course he would be more highly rated by the stat-tards if his numbers were prettier.

In hindsight this might have been better if it was 10 years later instead of 5. Take out his first 10 years and he still has over 300 Test wickets at 23. That's probably close to what Cummins will end up with.

Thats the thing........JA has played an extraordinary amount of test cricket. His entire career is not ATG material but he has also had a career within that career that is ATG.

It's fair to judge him on the whole 18 years, got no problem with that. But to overlook his stats in the last 10 or so is just stupidity.

I'd be very disappointed If paceman pat ends up with less than 400 tbh

i think injury (past and future) and australian rotation will scupper cummins' final wicket tally to being 'just' 300 but he might just dip his career average below 20.

He would probably have similar stats to Allan Donald. In case he gets 300 wickets at an average of 19.50, that would put him ahead of Steyn in ATG rankings.
