The Jack Sparrow scene:
"You are the worst bat to average 30+ and scored 1000+"
"But I did that"
Sure but I would argue in terms of match impact Botham's bowling and batting collectively outweigh Pollocks since he had so many soft runs frankly.

yeah but I'd argue that in the long term that wins you more games, and that's the point of Cricket
This is why in the end I have Botham in the ATG England XI. I imagine in a series he will fail more times than most but when he delivers he can near solo win a game.

This is true. But I think cumulatively he impacted his team more than Pollock, though you can argue Pollock with the ball was more consistent in off games.
Personally don't rate them much higher than people with similar numbers who are much more consistent.

voted Pollock, Pollock easily a superior bowler in his peak, Botham easily a superior batsman in his peak, so used the rest of their careers as the tiebreaker.
Overall, Pollock was never near good enough a bat and his average is inflated further by the 2000s period and minnows. He has an RPI of 24 and is well below even Kapil level.
If you're docking Pollock's batting for the 2000s era (probably fair) are you also giving him a boost for bowling on those same pitches?

Sure but he was only worldclass for a few years in that period, and of course he still had SA home pitches.
