I had heard he was puritan and aloof but didn't knew about selfish and petty.
Off the top of my head I’d call him selfish in the way he was determined to make extra money himself in his career, and yet later staunchly stood against player rights re: money. iirc a benefit match was what had sparked a small issue with Grimmett that ended up with Bradman as a selector not choosing Grimmett in future tests… apparently Bradman made remarks about Grum’s overusing the flipper, and that he couldn’t bowl a proper legbreak anymore, then in a benefit match Grum got him with a perfect leggie and said hows that for a legbreak. After taking 44 wickets against South Africa (whilst Bradman skipped the tour to stay home citing health - playing a full shield season though) Grimmett was dumped from the team for the next Ashes
