How should the world cup schedule be changed?

There has been a lot of criticism over the length of the world cup and minnows being bashed badly... I have a suggestion for the next world cup.

First there will be the Opening Ceremony, followed by Photo Session.

After that, the world cup will be handed over to Australia.

It might have been good these last 2 Cups, but you never know, come the next one it might not be neccessary!

I will provide a take on the essence of the world cup. .

A lot of people say that the world cup is a tournament to crown the best side in the world. Would Australia cease to be the best ODI side in the world though if they just lost the world cup in the final? People were saying Lanka is the best ODI side in the world after they won the cup in 1996. Lanka rightly held on to that claim according to quite a few for a while. However, some time after, South Africa were the best side in the world in the one day arena.

So the world cup just gives you the right to be called the world cup champs for 3/4 years and be remembered historically. The best side bit people say need not hold good.

all is good except by 2 games per day for super 8 or divide super 8 into 2 groups of 8. And minnows haven't been bashed as badly as in past cups and not as many times.

I think icc and the officials didnt realise that the length of the event was going to seem that long, all cup previous werent long well no complaints about length of time were voicedback then, im sure they'll accept the length of the event needs to shortened for players, spectators sake and so forth, what evre decision is made here is pointless im sure in the next event the frame work will be inplace to keep the event at a reasonable length.but you can be assured the icc will not reduce the team entry, the wc will remain at 16 teams.

This year was just about the same length as the last one - there weren't complaints then.

Before the WC, there were no complaints about the format of it.

IMO the reason the format has been questioned is because 2 sides were inept and knocked out before expected.

Quite how that is the ICC's fault I'm yet to find out.

Some sort of ICC-style prequalifying event to identify the 3 best minnows from the non-test playing countries.

Then 3 groups of 4, each made up of 3 test sides & one minnow.
Top 2 from each group through to the super 6
Then the semis & final.

Advantages?
- 19 less games in the WC proper
- far less pointlessly onesided games
- minnows need to do more than get lucky once to qualify for the second stage, which should make that 100% more interesting than it was this year.

Disadvantages?
- actually there aren't any.

More knockout games should be there in the next WC ala Soccer WC is what is required to make the tournament more slick so there are no dead rubbers in a tournament like WC.


I think the number of minnows should be lesser in the next WC.

they already have the qualifying part before the world cup. what you're referring to is the group stage which most tournaments have and if we just want to take stuff out like that how about just have the super 8 before the world cup to and just have the semi finals.
