Simpson: equal batsman to Smith, though somewhat a less immortalized captain, arguably the greatest slip fielder and a very handy leggie.

Smith: slightly ahead of Simpson as a batsman and captain, very close between these two, Simpson just clenches it.

Dexter: a very good batsman not much behind these two, but clearly behind for me. The others have opener's tax also. A more than handy bowler, but yeah, he is 3rd here.

Smith the better opener

Simpson wasn't that far behind though, and the arguable the greatest slip fielder ever and yes more that useful 5th bowler.

Smith had the captaincy, and want bad at slip either.

The bowling versatility beats out the captaincy?

Simpson, but barely... If I'm selecting one, probably Smith for the s/r at the top.
