Much more cut than swing from what I've read, mainly from leg. Averaged 15 on matting (with reportedly ​extremely friendly home umpiring) and 38 on turf, even with at least one match on a rain soaked pitch ideal for him.

Having played an occasional game on matting, I vouch for it being extremely bowler friendly.
