Yeah, WI had some Real Greats, and some Real Turds. Very few in between like others.
Espncricinfo said:
Harry Jupp was a broad-shouldered opening batsman for Surrey whose strong defensive technique earned him the sobriquet of 'Young Stonewaller.' He opened the batting in the first two Tests, in 1876-77, and top-scored for England with 63 in the first innings at Melbourne. A reliable fielder in the outfield or a cover point, he turned out for Surrey for 19 years before retiring at the end of 1881. He once replaced the bails after being bowled from the first ball of a local match, and the umpire asked why he wasn't leaving. 'Not at Dorking I ain't,' he said.
Noticed this recently. Seems like it was common technique back in the day

Firstly as an English supporter, do you really want to that. Secondly, even this might not be true in a few years, i.e. WI overtaking Eng, even in the 21st century.

Tore up England in England in 2000 though
eh extremely spicy series, Lord's, Headingley and Oval were extremely difficult that series, really good series by Athers and Cork's 33* is a great cricketing memory of mine. Athers's 83 and 108 in the last test might be his best performance, iirc it was the first time England won the Wisden Trophy since like 25 or 30 years

Better records in and against the strongest teams of his time, carried a team on his back for the better part of a decade, better to watch.
Was selfish and played for himself and his average over the interest of the team.

Refused to go higher in the batting lineup of a weak unit.

Consistently refused to protect the tail in scenarios when they batted together.
