Coach Camps flames players mid-Test match

Nearly a decade of dominance. Not my fault no one in England (bar Blakemore) can bowl.
England coach Liam Camps has been severely criticized for attacking his bowlers in a candid interview with ESPN8 - The Ocho, following the fourth day's play of the current Test against Bangladesh. The comment was even more shocking in the context of England's 5th day task at hand with the ball.

England rise to the occasion

Day 5 - England v Bangladesh

Despite the harsh words unleashed by coach Liam Camps, England cruised to an inspired win in the first Test against Bangladesh, bowling out the home side for 185 in 53.1 overs. But they could hardly shake the reality dictated by Camps' statement, and Stan Blakemore was again the talisman with the ball, taking a career-best 7 for 43 and improving to 50 wickets in his 10th Test this year.

England batted to 284-7 before Strauss called the innings closed with the pitch dramatically assisting the spinners. Alan Duvall bowled another sharp opening spell, but it wasn't until Blakemore was unleashed on the Bangladesh batsmen that England got on top of the game. Bowling over the wicket and outside legstump, Blakemore ripped the ball across the Bangladesh right handers and caused immense problems.

England took 6 wickets before tea and entered the final session of the match on top. Bangladesh needed 150 more runs from the post-tea session, but England continued to dominate and Blakemore snared the last 3 wickets in identical fashion, as the tailenders tried to sweep the ball pitched outside leg' and instead found the middle stump disturbed.

2nd Test - England vs Bangladesh

Day 1 - England v Bangladesh

England could hardly have gotten off to a more confident start to the second Test against Bangladesh. A wicket from the first ball of the match seemed to carry the confidence of the first Test victory and left England immediately, despite losing the toss to Rajin Saleh.

England continued to take wickets throughout the day, led by the offspin of Derek Hanlan, who seemed to arrive in Test cricket and bowled with variation and penetration in gathering a career-best of 4 for 55. Also among the wickets was first Test hero Stan Blakemore, who finished with 3 for 57. Bangladesh did well to recover from 92-5 and Tanmar Malik was chiefly responsible. The allrounder scored his maiden half-century in his 18th Test innings, raising his average to 15.23.

The England openers then faced a tricky period of 9 overs before the close of play, but negotiated it without any real hassle. Only one ball beat the bat in the period and England got to stumps on 21-0, just 205 runs behind Bangladesh with all 10 wickets still intact.

Reckless England waste away

Day 2 - England v Bangladesh

Loose batting in the final session of the day cost England a healthy advantage and allowed Bangladesh back into the second Test. The tourists lost 6 wickets in the post-tea session, capitulating to all manner of Bangladesh bowlers, as even Nafees Iqbal claimed his 3rd Test wicket with his part-time medium pace.

Kevin Pietersen and Christian Heath had score 57 and 80 respectively to lay the platform for England earlier in the day. And though both fell quickly before tea, the score read a respectable 207-4 at the interval. Wickets tumbled immediately after. Only Chris Hanlan, in compiling 28, looked to bat with any confidence. England ultimately fell for 274, a lead of only 48 runs.

Bolstered by their bowling comeback, the Bangladesh openers were in good shape, batting to the close without being separated - 11 for no loss.

Gritty Iqbal keeps Test alive

Day 3 - England v Bangladesh

Nafees Iqbal resumes tomorrow on the verge of his 7th Test hundred and with the second Test against Bangladesh evenly poised. Iqbal battled to 95 not out and sees his team leading by 194 runs heading into the fourth day, with 4 wickets intact.

For England it was a day of frustration. The bowlers toiled hard and Tim Marston and James Swanton in particular bowled with great commitment and resolve. They were nullified by a flat pitch and a keen attitude from the Bangladesh batsmen and instead had to settle for 242-6 as the fruits of their labour. There were moments of brilliance - most notably Pietersen's one-handed grab at slip to remove Rajin Saleh - but it was largely an unspectacular, yet disciplined, effort.

Tanmar Malik again contributed nicely, scoring 38 in a partnership of 70 with Iqbal for the 5th wicket. Bangladesh thus recovered neatly from 114-4, and though Manjural Islam was out quickly after Malik, Elias Sunny continued to the prove the depth of the Bangladesh batting. The spinner contributed 28 not out and starred in an unbroken stand of 50.

Two days remain in this thrilling encounter and both teams have everything to play for. Liam Camps stated before the series that he would settle for nothing less than a whitewash, whilst Bangladesh look to upset England and draw the series.

Spin keeps Bangladesh interested

Day 4 - England v Bangladesh

Bangladesh's spinners Manjural Islam and Elias Sunny kept the second Test alive as they triggered a collapse in the England middle order after Andrew Strauss and Ian Bell started confidently in the chase of 222 for victory.

England began the day brightly with quick wickets to hold Bangladesh to 269 all out. Blakemore and Derek Hanlan shared the wickets to fall, and ended with 3 apiece. Nafees Iqbal was denied his hundred. The opener fell for 97 to a sharp catch behind the stumps. The collapse meant that England would need 222 for victory and a 2-0 series result.

On a pitch still quite good for batting, Strauss and Bell had little problems negotiating the early overs from the Bangladesh seamers. Both batsmen notched half-centuries and Bell was first out, caught behind off the top edge of an attempted sweep shot. Christian Heath and Kevin Pietersen followed in quick succession and James Morris continued his mediocre series with a contribution of 13. Blakemore joined his captain at the crease and the two reduced the requirement to 59 runs when stumps were called. Andrew Strauss remains the key as England start the final day. He stands unbeaten on 83 and will look to guide his team home.

Strauss leads from the front

Day 5 - England v Bangladesh

Andrew Strauss took command on the morning of day five and carried England to a comfortably 6-wicket win over Bangladesh. England sealed a 2-0 series result, largely due to the effort of Strauss. The captain ended unbeaten on 123.

Bangladesh could be faulted for tactics, however, as Rajin Saleh elected to take the new ball after just an over of spin to start the morning. Stan Blakemore struggled against all the bowlers he faced, but Strauss was in fine form as he took on the Bangladesh seamers on his way to a top class 32nd Test hundred.

Strauss cut Nisar past point to the boundary to confidently bring up his ton, then executed a series of drives to speed to 123 not out and the winning runs. Strauss drove Islam through the covers to the sweeper on the boundary and trotted through for a single to end the game.

Strauss stands tall amid disaster

England vs Bangladesh

1st ODI

Andrew Strauss continued to lead from the front and played an outstanding innings of 120, whilst his team capitulated for 222 all out. Strauss and Bell added 93 for the second wicket and England looked in excellent shape at 133-2, but the Bangladesh spinners surged back into the game and only an excellent 29 not out from Stanley Blakemore ensured England got over the 200 run mark.

The spinners tied down the powerful duo of Kevin Pietersen and Christian Heath and the two managed only 4 runs from 31 balls between them. Saleh packed in close fielders to increase the pressure and ultimately both fell to close catches off Hasan, bowling superbly over the wicket with his left arm spin. Hasan finished with 4 for 40 and was by far the pick of the bowlers, though Haider applied himself well with the old ball on a slow surface.

Pace wins through for tourists

England vs Bangladesh

1st ODI

It was the exceptionally tight bowling by the pacers that did the trick for England , and though Rajin Saleh batted beautifully for 51, Bangladesh fell short of victory by some 38 runs. Saleh gave his team hope after the score had slumped to 53-3. But upon his dismissal - run out brilliantly - as the 5th man out, Bangladesh crumbled for 185.

Alan Duvall was brilliant with the new ball. Yet again he bowled a pacy and energetic opening spell and had the Bangladesh batsmen struggling to lay bat to ball. He was rewarded with the wickets of Nafees Iqbal and Arif Ahmed and set Bangladesh back at 22-2. Stan Blakemore beat Kalin Ahmed's attempted sweep shot 31 runs later and Banglaesh were struggling with 3 down.

Aftab Ahmed and Rajin Saleh then staged a recovery with a 53-run partnership. In an inspired move of captaincy, Strauss tossed the ball to Kevin Pietersen, as the sixth bowler to be used, with debutant offspinner Derek Hanlan still yet to bowl. Pietersen rewarded his captain with the wicket of Ahmed first up - 106 for 4. Saleh chose the moment to accelerate and scored freely off Pietersen and the returning Anderson.

He and Islam added a quickfire 37 and looked to threaten. Blakemore then found the inside edge of Islam's bat, and Saleh's disastrous attempted run came to pass 2 runs later. Duvall and Swanton were recalled to the attack and they wrapped up the game in quick time. The former was well-rewarded with two more wickets and finished with 4 for 20 for the match.
