I'll do WI:

West Indies vs India:

West Indies: Sobers, India: Kapil/Ashwin/Gavaskar tough to pick one
Overall: Sobers

West Indies vs Australia:

West Indies: Ambrose, Australia: McGrath
Overall: Ambrose

West Indies vs England:

West Indies: Sobers, Not many standouts for England here ... maybe Gooch? Dunno
Overall: Sobers

West Indies vs South Africa:

West Indies: Kallis. Tough to go past batting avg 73, bowling avg 30. South Africa: Probably Lara or Walsh.
Slim pickings otherwise.
Overall: Kallis

West Indies vs New Zealand:
West Indies: Gayle seems to have a good record vs them so maybe him.

West Indies vs Pakistan:
West Indies: Others like Sobers have gaudier numbers, but Hooper is a sneaky good pick here imo. Some very high quality runs. Pakistan: Imran
Overall: Imran

West Indies vs Sri Lanka:
West Indies: Lara. Sri Lanka: Vaas.
Overall: Might actually go for Vaas here, surprisingly. Has 3 gaudy series vs them . 26 wickets @15 in 2001, 13 wickets @5 (!) in 2005 and 12 wickets @19 in 2007.
Interesting

I personally went Freddie as he was the driving force behind England winning a series in West Indies after 30 years (I think) and had the ridiculous 1963-64 series where it was a ridiculous one man show, just one guy vs one of the strongest batting lineups, taking 34 wickets in 8 innings, but Gooch is also a good shout.

I think Hutton also has a good claim, in 13 games against West Indies, Hutton has 1,661 runs @ 79.10, He also averages 77 in the West Indies, played like 4 genuine match winning knocks and almost singlehandedly turned the 1954 West Indies tour from a 4-0 West Indies chokeslam to a 2-2 Draw.

Definitely Ambrose over Viv for Australia. Viv was bang average to Aussies at Home and really only had a single ATG 3 match Series and one Great on Early career.

I honestly forgot about Ambrose. You are absolutely correct. I'll edit. In which case, its a toss up between McGrath and Ambrose because Ambrose did as well but definitely imo faced better batting.

Some surprise ones.
A positive assessment of Sutcliffe that I disagree with? I thought I’d never see the day.

who is the second best Australian Ashes performer? Victor Trumper?
Next best batsman would be Smith. Best bowler…. one of Warne, Lillee or McGrath.

Not sure how you’d figure Trumper.

vs England

Trumper 40 matches 74 innings 2263 @ 32.79 6 tons 9 50’s
Hill 41 matches 76 innings 2660 @ 35.46 4 tons 16 50’s

when both played

Trumper 33 matches 61 innings 1962 @ 34.42 6 tons 7 fifties
Hill 33 matches 62 innings 2178 @ 35.70 3 tons 13 fifties

Not even clearly the best bat of his own era

Moyo's WI runs are minnow bashing, it's like saying Hammond is the best performer in England vs New Zealand tests.

Australia was extremely difficult to choose between Bradman, Grimmett and Harvey; and almost went with Steyn for India and Kallis for Bangladesh
