David Miller

Xuhaib

International Coach
Why did he never play test cricket?

Especially in the last 5 years when South Africa is short on batting talent. It's not like he is technically awful atleast could have been givin opportunities in some home series.

He retired from red ball cricket in 2018, so hasn't been available for most of the past five years. And before then, a first-class average of 36 meant that he wasn't crying out to be picked.
Yeah I could see a punt on someone like him being taken now but when he was actually playing red ball cricket to a mediocre standard South Africa's batting stocks were fine.

David Miller is one of those players who I firmly believe that had we taken a punt on him at a young age he would have been a good Test player . T20 has always been a huge distraction for him and maybe to the detriment to his red ball career . I felt the same way about JP Duminy once he got the T20 bug , never the same player .
