Ryan Verghese was the lone genuine wicketkeeper signup of the time.

Introduction:

A team of misfits and amateurs, the Cricket Web XI was thrust into International cricket against South Africa, confirming the miserable sense of humour of the ICC. Very little was expected from the team, and though they ultimately lost the series, expectations were far exceeded.

Still reeling from defeat in the last match, Graeme Smith won the toss and elected to bowl first. Perhaps not yet confident in his batsmen, the move seemed a fairly negative one.

A 2-1 series defeat, but the one victory took on absolutely epic proportions. The brilliance of Cloete and Sanders shone through in particular during the series, marking both as future legends of CW cricket.
