see footage of 70s WACA and I'd argue that's quicker than any modern Australian pitch, it's so quick that it genuinely feels dangerous.
Sure but I suspect the lateral movement was less thanks to the new ball type now, the odd flat pitch was more common, and bats were more capable of defending against quality pace.

are we deadass saying 70s bats were better than modern ones against pace? regardless, up until 2022 Australia had odd roads too, last two tests of the South Africa series for example.

Sure. In the 70s though from what I read pitches did slow often during the course of games.
