Pakistan had already experienced defeat at the hands of Zimbabwe and this had left them feeling victory would be sweet revenge. A defeat by 81 runs had been a hard loss to cope with so a determination not only to reach the final but also to show Zimbabwe they were not up there with the best was on their agenda.
They won the toss and looking at the weather batting first was a definite. Zimbabwe would have to bowl first - a rare event!
Pakistan came out with attack in mind only to find that Zimbabwe net practise following the defeat by South Africa had worked. Keeping the run rate below three, both Kearsley and Richards bowled impressively and within a few overs Kearsley claimed his first victim. An attempted hook shot by Khan was poorly timed and Eclipse easily caught it. 11-1
Richards followed up beautifully with an amazing ball which completely beat Anwar with its pace. His off stump was removed as he swung like a school boy. 17-2
Soon Youhana was added to Richards victims as he was lbw. Beauty of a ball and not often seen so plumb as this one. Pakistan were in shatters and the dream was slowly going.
Hope was still there however, as Reuben and Bluefox came on to bowl their first spells.
The run rate began to creep up but it wasn't long before Bluefox made his mark. As Ul Haq looked on in disbelief both Mujtaba and Nawaz fell in quick sucession. He was playing reasonably well and if he could find a decent partner then Pakistan would be able to make a game of it. As it was Pakistan were now 65 - 5
Ul Haq, who had braved some wonderful pace bowling, mistimed a shot to Hoy of the bowling of Reuben. Pakistan were woeful and with only the tail enders to come Reuben and Bluefox were ready for more.
With two more each Hussain and Mushtaq to Reuben, Mahmmod and Akram to Bluefox; Pakistan were all out for 118
Pakistan had given one of those awful batting displays that you would not expect from a primary school cricket match.
Surely the game was wrapped up. Jellett and Smith went out to finish the job and made pretty good headway until Khan ruined the party. Jellett was bowled - a rare event indeed. Smith followed soon after when only 73 runs were on the board, but with only 50 needed it was hardly a concern.
Both Eclipse and Craze couldn't manage to stay in long enough to make the win emphatic and it was Gray who coming back from his rest scored the winning runs to give Zimbabwe a 6 wicket win.
The final against an unbeaten Sri Lankan team now stands between Zimbabwe and the glory of the cup.
