First Super Cup game and hoping to get off to a good start against Sussex. Another trip to the south coast meant another big night out, this time in Brighton - the local police were involved but Halsey and Bennett managed to get to the ground on time after their night in the cells.

Bennetts antics might have affected his concentration as he was dismissed for 0. The rest of the top order followed in a procession, possibly to take some paracetemol to calm their headaches. At 76-7 is wasnt looking to rosy but Cloete was still there and he forges partnerships of 45 with Halsey and 50 with Mr Wright to get the Web up to 171 all out. Cloete was last man out for 67.

Regular wickets were needed and Malone produced 2 snorters to get both openers but Clapp put on 57 with Carpenter and 42 with Martin-Jenkins and at 147-5 it looked all over, but Malone returned with Mr Wright and between them they reduced Sussex to 161-9 still 11 needed for victory. But Davis hit 2 fours of Malone's last over to sneak the victory. A dissapointing loss, but the batting must take the blame, good bowling from the seamers.

After the first defeat of the season, everyone was up for the next macth in Birmingham against Warwickshire, Sean Bennett was dropped and Brad Smith replaced him at the top of the order.

The toss was lost and CW were put in to bat, Smith went early before Vimes and Blewy managed a bit of a partnership but both went in quick succession to leave CW 56-3. Bluefox rebuilt the innings with successive 50 partnerships with Craze and Cloete. With eight overs to got and Gray at the crease with Bluefox, CW stood in a good position at 204-5 but Bluefox got a little to aggresive and having hit the first two balls of the 43rd over for 4 he was then out and despite Gray's performance the Web collapsed to 246all out yet again failing to use all of their overs.

Defending that total on this pitch wasn't going to be easy, and when Powell and Knight put on 100 for the first wicket it looked done and dusted especially with Warks progreesing to 189-2 with 11 overs to spare, Cloete and Mr Wright took 2 each to raise hopes but it wasnt enough and Warks secured victory with 9 balls to spare.

On the back of 2 narrow defeats the importance of a win against fellow strugglers Essex could not be underestimated. Changes were made, enforced by the back injury which put Jamee Gray out for 2 weeks. Blewy also made way with BK Smith, who scored a double century in his first 2nd XI game back from injury, and A Ferd coming in.

The toss was won this time and given the inability to defend a total in the first 2 matches CW put Essex in. It was clearly the correct decision on an overcast day and Malone exploited the conditions excellently with his opening spell of 8-2-17-4, Essex in awful trouble. They played defensively against Halsey and Chapman initially but tried to attack once Cloete came on. This was a mistake and although the all rounder took some punishment he also took 2 wickets as the innings came to a close quickly.

The reply was quite routine, Brad Smith was in a hurry and his 50 came from 27 balls, his namesake finished the game of with over 30 overs left to boost the net run rate.

We need to win the next two games to have a hope of progress - Come on the Webheads!

Another day, another must win game. The management kept faith with most of the side that won the last match, the only change being Vimes stepping down for Blewy. That change went well, Blewy got the innings off to a great start by being out from the first ball. Once again the top order failed leaving CW 32-4. Craze and Bluefox repaired a bit putting on 69 before both departed, but Buggsy Malones 37 enabled the tail to get up to 195 on a cloudy day.

Malone got an early wicket but Rollins held firm for Northants until the spinners came on and Chapman took the game by the scruff of the neck with 3 wickets including that of Rollins for the top score in the match. Cloete and Halsey merely extended the advantage and Chapman came back to take the final wicket.

One match left and a win will see CW through to the Q-Finals.

Effectively a knock out match for Cricket Web, there were no pre match shenanigans for this one - the coach locked the players away in a hotel for the night and took the Webbettes out for the night to ensure there were no energy sapping activities going on, though the coach certainly looked the worse for wear in the morning. He denied the rumours, he was only making sure she got to her room ok.

The match itself was a tense affair, no changes were made to the line-up and the Web were put into bat. The opening partnership appeared to be going well and watching spectators allowed themselves the thought that CW might make a decent start for once. Fat Chance of that as they collapsed from 43-0 to 91-5. Craze and Cloete added 51 but their departure was accompanied by Halsey and only Mr Wirghts 17 got them to 183. Not Good.

Wright and Malone took 3 quick wickets to get the boys going but Laneys 64 looked to have the game won at 168-6. Then Halsey, having been hit for 40 from his first 5 returned to the attack and took 3 wickets including the last as Hants subsided and were all out 2 runs short of CW’s total - brilliant finish and through to the Quarters.

Halsey was given the MOM award, but it should have go to Mr Wirght or Chapman who were more deserving of the award. Somerset are our opponents in the Quarter Finals

The first NL game was at home against Worcestershire. In the close season the powers that be in the CW world had a state of the art sound system installed at the ground and decided that a DJ would be present for all NL games. Neil Pickup got the job for this game and the Webettes led the crowd in a rendition of Groove Armada’s ‘I see you baby’ before play. The Cricket Web team showed a number of changes with the top order definitely a worry. Vimes returned as did Eclipse, and Nichani made his first appearance this season. The bowling attack remained settled and Weber had recovered from Injury and would play his first second team match of the season.

As the Worcs openers walked out to ‘Crash and Burn’ by Busted, Malone prepared to bowl the first over. Unfortunately Pollard, Weston and Hick played very well for Worcs and late hitting from Spiring and Singh got them up to a formidable total of 283 for 4. Only Halsey could come out with any credit from the bowlers his 3 wickets included the centurian Pollard and the brilliant stumping of Solanki by Craze.

‘Another one bites the dust’ was heard too much early on a CW slipped to 77 for 4. BK Smith’s 71 steadied the ship and Cloete contributed 47 but at 181-7 with over a hundred needed at 6 an over it looked bleak. Enter Tom Halsey to the sounds of Elton Johns ‘Candle in the Wind’ and with support from Mr Wright and last man Chapman, Halsey’s 57* from 51 deliveries managed to haul CW to a one wicket victory with 10 balls to spare. If he didn’t deserve the MOM award in the last match he certainly deserved it now and the bumper crowd rose in salute as he walked off the field, chanting ‘Halsey, Halsey’ well in to the night.

Top stuff Dave! REally great reading and it's a top thread thatnks to all your efforts.

Bit unhappy with another broken figner, if it's on the left hand it may have to be amputated soon to avoid further injury :p. But my OD performances have been solid and the team has been going extremely well! Keep it up Webbers and Dave!
