It depends on the weights you give to each one, and how do you even include T20 when the older guys didn't play it?

Just didn't play enough. Not their fault though

Merchant was probably better than Sehwag imo, but he just didn't have enough of a test career for me to put him above Sehwag in the greatest test cricketers of India list.
And if one is including ODIs then it's Sehwag ofc.

Just do Test+FC for older players (weightage will change depending on era), Test(75)+ODI(25) for players in middle of the spectrum and Test(75)+ODI(15)+T20(10) for more modern players.

Fair enough, don't think Merchant still gets above Sehwag though. Or maybe he does idk. Definitely gets in over Msd though.
