Surprised this one hadn’t been made already.

Two best openers since Hayden/Sehwag/Smith (until recent times with Usman and Rohit coming to the fore).
Rohit is a htb, just like Warner..... So yeah, Cook got this one easily.

Oh let's see, an opener who scored runs all around the world including ATG performances in the two toughest tours he could go on as an English cricketer which were instrumental in England away wins or a bloke who averages 13 outside of Australia and is best known for violence and cheating.

Real close.

think I'll vote Cook you know

Haynes v Warner would be good. Warner can be a bit over criticised and he did have to play England/India away a hell of a lot, but I'd still definitely take Desmond there.

Haynes was the batting standout in the Windies' ill-fated 79/80 tour of NZ. Warner would've struggled to average double figures.

Would have Cook as a player, but would actively avoid spending any time with both tbh, for opposite reasons. Warner as a try hard bogan and Cook as a try hard ponce.
That’s a shame because I heard Cook really wanted to have a pint with you

Actually reckon Desmond has become a bit underrated and a fair distance better than Warner. Seems like many people define him by his away average but he has lots of good overseas performances. India was the only place where he was always ineffective. Averaging more than Richards, Greenidge and Lloyd at home shouldn't go unnoticed too.

Ha, my initial reaction was that this was harsh on Cook. But then I thought about it and decided that given the chance I too would probably rather decline the company of both of them.

There was a point where I thought Warner could level up and reach near Hayden level, but he just became more and more of a meme away from home as his career went on. Cook was the main guy in England's two biggest away series wins of that generation, so this is a no contest.

Whereas Root would be welcome in any flat roof across the land, mostly because he wouldn't go blabbing on about the unremitting racism that goes on in such places.
