Who wins?

One one side you have:

7 Soberses's
2 McGraths
1 Murali
1 Gilchrist

Other side is the best possible non cloned XI, not including any of the above, or Bradman.

Post war ATG without the above players.

Sachin.
Smith.
Knott.

Pluses are for players I think are an upgrade in primaru over your team, ~ for relative

Hutton {+)
Hobbs (+)
Bradman (++)
Tendulkar (~}
Viv (~)
Hammond (–)
Walcott (~}
Imran (+)
Marshall (+)
Warne (+)
Barnes (~}

My team would win I think, much superior 3rd pacer, more variety

If no Bradman, I'd get in Sutcliffe and bat Hutton at 3, still relative, can't see Sobers doing much better than Sutcliffe as an opener.

They have two Glen McGrath

I chose Hutton, Sunny and Barrington because they are snail paced batsmen who will blunt him.

The bowling is very weak.

If the match takes place in Indian pitches, it’s an easy win for the ATG opposition team

Sobers’ bowling isn’t that effective.

McGrath has never been penetrative in Asian pitches.

Murali is great but he has a poor record in India.

So the team is

Sobers
Sobers
Sobers
Sobers
Sobers
Sobers
Sobers
Gilchrist+
Murali
McGrath
McGrath

vs

Hobbs
Sutcliffe
Lara
Tendulkar
Smith
Hammond
Knott+
Hadlee
Marshall
Warne
Steyn

In this case though, I’m feeling a more batting oriented keeper would perhaps be preferable. I arguably have a bowling advantage so would prefer to beef up the batting with a Sanga type.

It also feels a bit off and nullifies Gilchrist to an extent to have 7 batsmen, but that’s just me

Gary Sobers had a dismal record against NewZealand and it became even worse when he toured there.

vs NZ : 12 Tests. 404 runs @ 23
in NZ : 7 Tests, 151 runs @ 15.

So I would chose to name my ATG 11 as NZ XI

I have 7 of them to play with. One of them is making hay on the day. And he can give you as much support pace or chinaman spin bowling (heavily using googlies against righties) as you need.

-Some dude, probably

The Sobers side definitely has "more" batting and bowling (and fielding probably) than the "proper All time teams", but yeah on the bowling side you could definitely ask a question about quality of depth.

One thing I haven't seen is anyone trying to exploit the batting side having all lefty proper batsmen. You could use your own lefty bowlers and or an off spin bowler ( but I took the best one 😛 ) to try and exploit the matchup, as it's going to be the same throughout the lineup. Sobers unfortunately couldn't bat righty, as far as I'm aware, so doesn't have the kind of batting versatility (but quality in spades) he had as a bowler.
