Caribbean Odyssey

Has anyone read Caribbean Odyssey by Mike Coward on the 1990-91acrimonious Australian tour of the West Indies.

I plan to buy it online but first I want to know is it really worth. Does it contains just match reports or other behind the scenes stuff as well?

Haven't read it but remember that tour well. Jeez there was some bad blood between those sides.

That's the main purpose I want this book. Want to know why things got so bad in this series. Do u know any other book which covers this tour in detail?

I don't sorry mate, no. Steve Waugh didn't begin his tour diaries until the 93 Ashes, and tbh his view on it would obviously be skewed anyways/

If anyone on here knew of books about that tour it would probably be either @fredfertang or Archie Mac. Don't think Archie is about much these days though.

FWIW I've read Coward's "Cricket Beyond the Bazaar" which covers Australia's tours to India in 1986 (the tied-test tour) and Pakistan in 1988, and it was a pretty good read. Enjoyable overview of how Border's side embraced the challenges of touring India, and how they apparently failed to show a similar mindset during the Pakistan series. Did think the writing and editing wasn't necessarily top drawer, but his fascination with the subcontinent shines through, and there's an entire chapter on earlier developments in India-Australia relations, so some good history in there too.

While not the most effortless read it was certainly a nice addition to the collection. Will the seek out the Caribbean one too now that you've mentioned it, cheers.
