Many of Kumbles hauls were just high scoring wicket bags that didn't affect the result. Except Sydney.

I mean how many spinners have actually won a game though in Australia?

Mushtaq took two relatively cheap 9fers in consecutive tests against a no.1 team.
Not many, Mushtaq's Series was definitely ATG. But Kumble's Series was also significantly flatter and the batting even better. I mean, the next best Bowling average was 37.5, and had 2/3 of his wickets in one less game. Australia's Highest wickettaker MacGill took his over 50! Not many spinners have won a game in Australia, but also not many have lead their teams to a series draw as well. Especially given it was a Series draw at Home of the unbeatable Australia.

Ok but in the end when Kumble took his fifers in the first two tests they still scored 550 plus. So realistically it didn't impact the games. Last test yes was a great performance.

This thread just makes you think how exceptional Shane Warne was, the best touring spinners since 1960 are Anil Kumble (37.73), Lance Gibbs (33.39), Derek Underwood (31.48) and Mushtaq Ahmed (33.59), the highest wicket taking spinner in Australia is from 130 years ago when it was a bowler dominated game, and then there's Warne who casually averaged 25 in Australia at the end of 2005.

We don't have to, we already know.

Ashwin had a similar contrast at home. 39/21~62/31.

BTW, did you start rating Herath ahead of Ashwin?
I believe a key difference at home for Ashwin would be that India would often play multiple spinners. In that case you can also use the other Indian spinners as a valid reference point. Not so much with Warne or Lyon.

IIRC, MacGill outperforms Warne in matches they played together at Home.
