Was Hutton that good?
I think he was the best English captain post war.

I also think guys like Sachin, Lara, Gavaskar were terrible captains. Hammond had his issues and wasn't built for captaincy, Sobers we all know about his biggest tactical blunder. Smith, as I said. It's Hutton vs Viv for me and I think Hutton was a cleanly better captain.

The Tiger King
Sachin is probably the worst captain I have evee seen. Might also be for the fact that he was just such a great batsman, useful part timer, safe fielder, that it was hard to imagine how he could be so **** at captaincy.

I think the best players are often not good captains.

Viv and Hutton had the best results. Of the two, Hutton obviously had lesser resources and had a more pivotal role in turning his team around but he was also criticised for being negative.
