with kapil taking the new ball for sure (and two out of srinath, amar singh or pathan to partner him)
you must be kidding here...even taking into the account the paucity of good indian pacers, that is just outrageous...:)

Yes, a question I've long found fascinating. These three formed, joint with the South African triplet of Schwarz, Vogler and Faulkner, the most potent spin attack in history during Indian cricket's most successful phase to date, the last 6-7 years notwithstanding.

So who was the best of the three? Am open to pretty much all myself, but I have read material suggesting Chandra was the most accomplished overseas performer, which to date has meant I've tended to consider him the best.

Venkat, the backup spinner, was always thought inferior by most despite the fact he was picked ahead of Prasanna on a number of occasions. So he's not included here.

My late father used rate prasanna quite highly and used say a lot of stories about him in my childhood. Imo chandra one whould either get wickets or would give runs. boy when he was on he was absolutely on while bedi was miserly more consistent and pure artist with ball

It’s nice to some of the comments from 15 years back not just this thread regarding the cricketers we discuss nowadays

I was reading a thread in 2008 about who is better between McGrath and Ambrose and the replies are interesting

I haven't heard Bedi praised as much except for his beautiful action
Besi was rated higher than Underwood everywhere, including in England (though definitely thanks atleast in part to his action). IIRC, a World XI made by top 5 English Cricket journalists, had Bedi down with all 5 votes in the team, with Underwood getting none. Chandra also made that team, for variety mostly. Don't think Prasanna was even mentioned really, the only exercise I saw him rated way highly was in the Cricinfo teams.

tbf it might be due to Derek being very much seen as a wet pitch monster in the same line as someone like Lock which led to his achievements abroad being discredited/poorly rated. Bedi over Derek is a fine stance anyway.

Seems fair. Both of them are way better than Prasanna tbh. And Bedi/Chandra over Underwood is not a bad take, they are ultra close imo.
