Battle of the Bowling Peaks

True that because I can see a Sehwag (for example)taking apart either spinner regardless of location. He'd only manage that vs Hadlee and co on the flattest of flattest wickets. And even then, the pacers would still have a chance
Exactly. Any spinner ever born or probably will be born could be taken apart by a Lara, Sachin or Sehwag. Spinners bowl slower and its just an inherent disadvantage they have in cricket in imo. A fast bowlers ceiling is simply much higher and the best of the best wouldn't get this treatment until one prepares roads

Yeah, I have Warne either tied or a hair ahead of Murali, so this isn't against him.

Neither spinner can be reasonably ranked ahead of the top 3 guys and it's arguable for the next 2.

Lara had trouble getting on top of faster spinners.

Yes but on his day he could take them apart still. I can see Lara taking down Kumble down in India at his pant. Can't say the same for him or Sachin, Richards etc doing the same to any top 5-10 pacer

Richard at his peak did multiple times.

Yeah, well said. It's just differences in MOs that make spinners more vulnerable to attack than fast bowlers, even at the highest possible echelons of their respective crafts. A skilled player of spin intent on taking apart a great spinner simply has more ways/options of doing so at his disposal than an equally skilled player of pace has against a great seamer.

Look at the post I replied to.
I know but nobody is picking Raju or whoever else for an atg team. They're picking Warne and Murali. And compared to the top fast bowlers they'd be taken apart more often and were by the top batsmen of their time.

Yeah true. But they also offer the benefit of bowling much longer spells than pacers. I think by a rule of thumb spinners are more hittable and so generally averages higher; much of their value in comparison comes from their ability to go for longer spells.

Well yeah, spinners have their uses that's why most teams tend to pick one (or two at most). And afaic, only Murali and Warne are remotely in the convo with top pacers. Maybe O'Reilly as well but he played so few tests.

He contractually obligated to make that statement once a week. Just let it go.
