Cricket Web: All-Time Legend
Which batting orders provide the most for an average team?

Sehwag, Dravid, Tendulkar and Laxman or G Smith, Amla, Kallis and ABD?

Haynes, Greenidge, Viv, Richardson, Lloyd or Langer, Hayden, Ponting and Waugh brothers?

Gavaskar, Vishwanath, Vengsarkar, Amaranth or Anwar, Inzi, Yousuf and Salim Malik?

Hobbs, Sutcliffe Hammond and Jardine or Brown, Morris, Bradman and Miller or Worrell, Weekes, Walcott and Sobers?

Sehwag<~Graeme
Dravid>ABD
Sachin>Kallis
Laxman<~Amla

India Easily, especially if batting Only.

Langer~Haynes
Hayden<~Greenidge
Mark~Richardson
Ricky+Steve>Viv+Lloyd

Very close, will go the Aussies Just.

Gavaskar>>Inzi
Amarnath<Yousuf
Vengsarkar<~Anwar
Viswanath>~Mallik

India clearly for me. Think the difference an ATG brings to the table will be suffice.

Hobbs+Sutcliffe+Hammond+Jardine>Sobers+Walcott+Weekes+Worrell>Bradman+Miller+Morris+Brown

So England. 3 of top 12 including the literal Best after Don, think topples the Sobers+Ws even with just Jardine. The others with Don pulls him down a fair bit.

I'd favour the Indians on a spinny wicket and the saffers on a pacey wicket.

Giving it to the West Indies, The gap between Viv and Ponting is definitely there.

The Indians, especially on a pace aiding pitch as Yousuf and Inzi would go Missing in action.

The English, followed by the Carribean and then by the Australians.

I'm not sure there's a bigger gap between Waugh&Lloyd than Viv&Ponting.

Are the saffers even ahead in a pacey wicket? I think not in a swinging one

Hm, I guess on a soft English wicket it'd be De Villiers/Amla/Smith vs Tendulkar/Dravid, VVS and Kallis would shrink greatly but I think Kallis would have the slight edge, it's Sehwag who on such wicket would drag India down, Dravid is the best player of swing there but a 2v3 is hard.

Fair point actually. But think it's close on every kind of wickets but turners, where Indians are Streets Ahead.

Going at their batting positions:

I see Smith just ahead of Sehwag.

Amla just behind Dravid.

Tendulkar clearly ahead of Kallis.

ABD clearly ahead of Laxman.

The SAffers seem a better allround batting unit frankly for most conditions.

Me too actually. Will change that.
Yeah. Waugh and Lloyd both came good in the final 11 years of their test careers. Their RPI is totally equal in those periods. Both went well away from home. I think Lloyd was moderately better before that too. Some impressive performances v Australia, England and India.

Viv on the other hand is definitely a level above Ponting.

For the first two...

South Africa just
WI just

India have the Tendulkar factor but I think SAF look a bit more bullet-proof as a unit across conditions.

Think WI's top 3 has a clear edge. I would just about give the 4&5 battle to Australia but there's enough damage in WI's favour.

I really am not getting the SA picks really.

Tendulkar>Kallis
Dravid>ABD
Amla>Laxman
Smith>~Sehwag

By tier:

Tendulkar
Kallis, Dravid
ABD, Amla
Smith, Laxman, Sehwag

I just can't see any order in any universe and the Indians are just overall better batsmen.

Think Waugh is also definitely above Lloyd, atleast a tier above imho.
