Which would you pick for an average side?

Bradman or McGrath/Warne?

Hobbs/Sutcliffe or Waqar/Wasim/Saqlain?

The 3Ws from WI or Ambrose/Walsh?

Sachin/Dravid or Steyn/Philander?

Chappell bros or Anderson/Broad?

Viv/Lloyd or Vaas/Murali?

Interesting. Seems you are less bowler oriented

Murali is great. Vaas isn’t.

Steyn is great. Philander isn’t.

Both Anderson/Broad aren’t great.

3 great batsmen > 2 great bowlers

Hobbs & Sutcliffe : Very rare opening combination

Right but do average teams gain as much value from great bats as they do from great bowlers?

If it was Chappell Bros vs Ambrose & Walsh, would have chosen the WestIndies fast bowlers.

But Greg & Ian vs Anderson & Broad is easy.

Reg. Akram/Waqar/Saqlain vs Hobbs & Sutcliffe

Waqar was great for 4 years and then a burden.

Saqlain was never that good in test cricket.

Sutcliffe was one of the best ever test openers.

Hobbs is arguably the second best after Don has longevity.

The first 3 with more players
The next 3 with bowlers

Edit: Actually, will go Sachin/Dravid over Steyn/Philander

How is Mcgrath/Warne vs Bradman an option, to me that sounds ridiculous but ok.

Mcgrath/Warne
Wasim/Waqar/Saqlain
3 Ws
Sachin/Dravid
Anderson/Broad
Viv/Lloyd

McWarne, assuming Bradman has a bog average partner, their run output would be around 120 runs an inning, Warne and McGrath combined is not really beatable even by that.

Hobbs and Sutcliffe and it's not close. Hobbs is greater than any specialist barring Sir Don, he absolutely crushes Wasim, Sutcliffe crushes Waqar and Saqlain is not good enough to make up for the gap.

The Three Ws is a ridiculous deal, you get a great wicket keeper in Walcott, a very good seamer for spicy conditions in Worrell and another reputedly decent pacer in Walcott, a great slip in Weekes and two great slips if Walcott isn't keeping, arguably the Greatest captain Cricket has seen in Worrell, an Elite ATVG Batsmen in Worrell, and arguably two ATG quality (keyword: quality) batters in Weekes and Walcott.

Sachin/Dravid as Sachin and Steyn would've similar impact on the game, Philander is a little too pitch dependent for my liking, and is also kind of a weird case who gets injured everytime you've to tour. Not a fan of Philanderitis.

Anderson/Broad as I rate Anderson higher than most, consider him an easy ATG pacer so Greg doesn't crush him for me, Broad over Ian pretty clearly.

Viv/Lloyd as I don't think Muralidharan is better than Sir Viv, I think Lloyd is quite a bit better than Vaas. another thing with Vaas is, I think he can be quite a big liability in a sense that Lloyd or Viv can never be.
