The comparison here isn't between those 2 series though.Sydney Barnes in South Africa in 1913-14 is the Greatest bowling feat any bowler had, anywhere. It's probably a feat that will never be topped, not sure it can be topped but Hadlee came the closest.
home series is just as monsterous but he really should've just said Triangular series. The comparison here isn't between those 2 series though.
I don't see how this part is generally omitted. Also, that was a really poor SA lineup Barnes was playing against, on much more bowling friendly surfaces.
It's a poor lineup, let's be honest. It's never omitted, it's just that nobody at the time or today actually believes it was a minnow lineup.
Handily international level. It's a poor lineup, let's be honest.
And I disagree, not to be obtuse or difficult, but to objectively look at it. It was imo, below.Handily international level.
I mean, you're allowed to be incorrect but South Africa had a better record than many current international teams do, their batting was probably better than current saffers. And I disagree, not to be obtuse or difficult, but to objectively look at it. It was imo, below.

It means that era was the Toughest era in test cricket? You've got a grand total of 3 guys avging above 22.5
Three batters above international level only though.the conventional average at the time: 24.52
so Yeah, International level.
South Africa beat England twice at home in the era, and would've won multiple games in the 1913-14 series had it not been for Barnes.
South Africa's record in the golden era is not minnow level, at all.
It means batting conditions were tough and SA had a poor batting line up. Either way, Barnes had a much easier job than Hadlee. It means that era was the Toughest era in test cricket?
Dave Nourse, Aubrey Faulkner and Herbert Taylor are a level above any of the Windies Batsmen of modern times.Three batters above international level only though.
Yeah I mean, I can't rate it that high. All that I understand, the batting line up seems to me to be at a similar level to WI of the past few years.
Barnes's stats in that series are very similar to Bumrah's stats on his tour to WI (avg, SR and eco). Barnes did bowl more and played an extra game, and hence the higher WPM and wickets taken.
The great WPM is obviously what it takes to a level above the Bumrah effort, but I can't rate at Hadlee level.
