Australian U-30 Team

Basically our team anyway.
Without Styris, Fleming, Bond, Martin and Cumming.

I was tempted to bat Vincent in the middle order, but none of the other young openers are good enough. How and McIntosh being the best of a poor bunch really.

Tough, a lot of good players turned 30 this year. Bracken, Haddin, Hussey, Noffke, Rogers...

Jaques
+Ronchi
Watson
Clarke
Pomersbach
White
Hopes
McDonald
Johnson
Tait
Hilfenhaus
12th Thornely

More of an OD setup here. No specialist spinner and a little heavy on 'all-rounders'. No spinners good enough under 30 really, White and Clarke would do the job just as well I'm sure.

Pretty good team TBH. Pomersbach, Birt and Cosgrove are the only other real batting options IMO, with Cowan and Marsh also lesser contenders. White, McDonald and Hopes are all reasonable all-rounders (White moreso a batting one) while I don't think I've left out any bowlers.

Pomersbach and Butterworth? They've got 14 games of FC experience between them.

Also, don't see what's so funny about Dominic Thornely. Averages 46 in the Pura Cup which is more than can be said for North, Clarke and White.

Yeah Thornely is terribly underrated, actually has pretty close to the best record going around in Pura Cup cricket over the last couple of years, yet you never really hear his name mentioned for higher honours...

Given what Pomersbach has done on the field so far I dont think its unreasonable to mention him, very exciting prospect....but Butterworth....naaah

Did score 200 and take a few million wickets in a seconds match. Is bowling well today.

He has serious talent, you only need to see what he did in last years Pura Cup final to know this.
Did I deny he has talent? No, I just said he isn't a gun at the moment, which he isn't. I'm pretty sure he will be, but you shouldn't pick hypothetical teams like this based just on talent IMO, especially when there are other candidates who have performed better over a longer period of time.

Why?

It's better then just picking the 11 players with the best stats..

You should pick a team with players who have contributed the most, whether it be with the bat or ball.
LOL that's absurd!!

Balance is very important. No point picking 11 29 year olds in your side or picking the 4 bowlers who have contributed the most with the ball if they are all swing bowlers or something.

Pick the best team. The West Indies of the 1980's didn't worry about a spinner because they had atleast four fast bowlers who were all better than their best slow bowler. Seeing as it's a hypothetical side, I wouldn't have any trouble with it consisting solely of 29 year olds if they were the best players.
