Lara should bat 5 or 6 IMO.

He prefers it there apparentely and could really be devastating with less pressure on his shoulders.

Kallis shouldnt bat lower than 4. Its a waste., and he takes his time to get going.

Sachin Tendulkar
Virender Sehwag
Jaques Kallis
Rahul Dravid
Brian Lara
Andrew Flintoff
Chris Cairns
Brendan McCullum
Shaun Pollock
Harbhajan Singh
Muttiah Muralitharan

flip a coin, if it lands on its side bond will be available for the match
I think we should just give up on Bond, something will always happen and he'll be injured.

If I wanted to reallyyyy pi$$ the Aussies off, I would have Sangakkara captain.

I think this is a really strong batting line up with Flintoff coming in at 7 and Pollock at 8.

Bowlingwise, there are 5 regular bowlers in there, not counting Kallis, and with Gayle and Sehwag providing the extra spin option in case of a turner.

yes, but Kallis doesnt bowl all that much nowadays too.

I'd like to see Pollock and Harmison open the bowling, with Akhtar at first change along with Flintoff or the spinner.Playing the Aussies, I think one needs 5 specialist bowlers.

I like that team...it has 6 good batsmen, a Flintoff in good batting form, and Pollock at 8.

Interesting thing I read in the paper that said that the Kiwis want to be No 1 in the ODI table so they play the ROW. So if everything goes their way, we could be talking about NZ v ROW ODI - but then that would probably just be a World XI. :p

^ will it still be played in Australia then ?

Frankly speaking, I think the Kiwis will be thrashed in that game.

Are they able points-wise to do such a thing? If they win every ODI from now on and Australia lose every ODI, would that put NZ on top?

Apparently, yes.

With New Zealand moving to equal second on the ICC's limited-overs ladder after Sunday night's victory over Australia, the Black Caps are aiming to dethrone their trans-Tasman rivals and play off for $1 million against the select World XI next September.

Australia had appeared certain to face the world team at Test and one-day level, needing to finish on top of the ICC table in both formats by April 1, 2005, to qualify. But given NZ's outstanding limited-overs form this year - a 17-2 record (with two no-results) from 21 games - all-rounder Chris Cairns believes the Black Caps are well-positioned to displace the Australians from the No. 1 one-day position by the World XI deadline.

"That would really throw a spanner in the works," Cairns said. "But when you look at it, we really just have to do well against Sri Lanka and Aussie at home and we'll be really close to qualifying as the top-ranking team for that rest-of-the-world game. That'd be a huge turn-up and the boys would be really fired up for it."

With another victory over Australia in the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy series, NZ would move past Sri Lanka and into outright second on the table and a clean sweep would put it just seven points adrift of Ricky Ponting's team.

That would leave the Black Caps with five one-day internationals against Sri Lanka, then a further five clashes with Australia, all on home soil, before the World XI deadline.

The low, difficult pitches of NZ heavily favour the Black Caps, who have won 19 of their past 25 one-day internationals, including 10 of their past 12 against Pakistan, England, India and South Africa at home.

Australia, meanwhile, will play six one-dayers against the West Indies and Pakistan this summer then, results pending, contest a best-of-three finals series before heading to NZ.

And following Sunday night's four-wicket loss, the Australians will now be acutely aware that any form downturn could result in demotion on the one-day table, as well as a missed chance to play for $US750,000 against the World XI in three one-dayers next year.

^crikey, Aussies better stay on their game and do better than game 1 then....

But Im not worried, I think the Australians are too classy to lose either no 1 rankings for quite a while yet.

Remember the Sydney Test.

Yeh, but if the game really took place, who would you rather right now, Sachin or Seywag?
an average of 41 this year as opposed to an average of 25 this year.

might not be a bad idea to play 2 spinners IMO, the aussies are far more susceptible to spin than they are to pace.
would be great if the SA groundsman prepared a slow wicket for these ODIs too :p

I'd tend to agree with Sarwan over Lara, but in defence of the West Indies skipper, he's used himself a lot more in a late innings attack mode than he has before. That doesn't tend to help the average too much.

yes and in the chances that he got, and in several innings he did bat in the top 4 and got chances to play the big innings, he did even worse than what he was doing late in the innings.

Although not likely that NZ will be the number 1 side before the April 1 2005 deadline they will quite possibly be ranked second and it seems even more possible that they will not be represented in the rest of world XI which would be a dead set joke considering the last five times they have played aussie in aussie they have won four of them and their ranking proves they are an awesome one day team. Cairns, Oram, Bond (if fit), Vettori, McCullum, Astle and even Fleming should at least be considered for such a team and there should be some form of representation of the kiwi nature in the side. Cairns particually.
