There has genuinely been a champion in this playoff format who won the title without winning a race all year (Matt Crafton, Truck Series 2019) and that didn't lead to any sort of change so I wouldn't hold my breath.

Agree that the format is decidedly not great though. Makes it all the more irritating that Supercars are operating with something similar this year
I mean yeah but that was the (basically) third tier series. Speaking of the Supercars finals I’d love if a Ford snatched the win but I’d genuinely feel like Feeney got robbed.

My man Ryan Newman almost did it in Cup in the first season of the current playoffs format in 2014, but unfortunately Kevin Harvick was just that bit quicker that day at Homestead

As for Supercars, yeah Feeney honestly has been excellent this year and under the traditional format would be a highly likely and fully deserving champion, but with the system he could easily lose it with just one lean weekend here in Adelaide if someone else goes on a tear that race meeting. Wouldn't feel right to me either, but it means more coming from someone like you who than myself who has been traditionally on the other side of the Red v Blue divide
