Brother you voted Weekes over Barrington, stop whining about away records when you care so little about it.
I did not vote Weekes over Barrington. Nourse ****blocked my chance to choose between them, and I would've chosen Barrington anyway.

You are right though and you don't need to make up **** to prove it, especially when my voting is erratic as it is. I don't care about away records any more than home records – except in cases like this where the percentage of games played home v away is skewed. But I thought you did. Clearly not, however, given your love of Compton and May.

On the last statement, It's less so about me not caring about away records but moreso me not finding their away records to be as abhorent as they are on paper after researching their careers. Same thing with Weekes, Walcott or even Haynes, though the last still showed issues but still.

I know you think that. But you can't decide that 35 is actually 50. I am really struggling to see how either May's home or away record is better than Williamson's, when longevity is considered.

I do rate May's home record higher. And No, I'm not saying 35 is better than 50, I look into a reason of underperformance and context around the series, sometimes it's dissapointing and turns out someone just messed up (Botham in West Indies 1985-86 or Harvey in England 1956) and sometimes it turns out there were external reasons leading to their underperformance (Weekes in England 1957 or Compton in Australia 1950-51) and when it is the latter, I'm generally a lot more lenient.

That seems fair. I didn't realise May's matches in England were so low-scoring; I assumed that it was the ones he did crap in that brought the average average down. Not helped by the English bowling attack being the second best of all time but opposition bowlers did well too.

I disagree since Williamson averages 75 at home in the last decade but that was in much more favourable conditions (apart from the fact that he was batting at #3).

No I'm not just talking about a bad series in South Africa, I'm talking about the fact that holistically his away record is a hot mess. I'd be interested to see his FC record away from England, since in tests he played 59% of his matches at home and averaged 22 runs fewer on tour.

Plainly, his away record's a hot mess in the same way that Williamson's is. But it's hardly talked about. Maybe that's because unlike May, Williamson averages 75 at home in his own decade-long peak. Which is rather a lot better than 57.
43 matches 70 innings 3225 @ 50.39 15 tons 10 fifties

I think May's Home record is absolutely top tier ATG (though tbf, so is Kaney's) but given how low scoring the games were, it's his Away Ashes that truly are underrated. He averages sub 40 but was arguably the best in both his Aussie tours. It's really after looking into this that I came to realise May's problem isn't as much away as it is SA specifically.

Interesting how away record matters for May (there's lot of context in that which luffy has covered it) but when it comes to Gower suddenly away record doesn't matter, Gower's away record considering attacks and conditions he faced is absolutely truly ATG levels. I'm sure he will struggle to make top 10 teams here.

sidenote: @capt_Luffy would you mind changing up some of the initials you’re using… like the ones that differ from the general ones used on cricinfo are really paining me.

namely

IAN Khan
RS Dravid
WM Younis

and now startlingly; MJ Miandad

(if you were being consistent you’d also have DM Muralitharan or KS Ranjitsinhji Vibhaji)

But please just stick to the cricinfo/official ones. It shouldn’t bug me but it does and I hope I’m not being ignorant/rude here re: SC naming conventions.

Like if Donald George Bradman is DG Bradman, why does Rahul Sharad Dravid being RS Dravid bug you?? I have tried a plethora of naming conventions, and it's like the best of the worst. Also re Murali: Deshbandhu is a title, it's like naming Hutton, SL Hutton
