Nah. He’s far from Ireland’s best spinner and since they started playing Tests he was more of an all-rounder than spinner as - certainly compared to his ODI record. If you’re picking on Tests and Tests alone then other options are definitely legit.
The test sample size is too small to make any reasonable judgement off of it. FC numbers and just generally watching them bowl have to be taken into account here.
And by the time Dockrell got to play Tests, his bowling had regressed substantially. It's simply that Ireland haven't played enough Tests to have a variety to choose from that he's even in the discussion. McBrine has performed much better than Dockrell, has played more Tests and just is also a better batsman. He's better on all measures for Ireland's Test team and should be ahead of Dockrell.
Yeah but the Dockrell pick isn't based on his performances in test cricket. It is based on the quality of spinner he was in his pomp. Ireland just got test status too late for him as you said. Basing this pick off his whole career because there aren't great alternatives.
