AUSTRALIAN TEAM JUST RELEASED - 1100 MELBOURNE TIME

The ACB today announced a 12-man squad for the second Orange Test match against England, beginning in Adelaide on 21 November.

The squad is:

Stephen Waugh (captain), NSW, age 37, 152 caps, Adam Gilchrist (vice-captain), WA, age 31, 35 caps,
Andrew Bichel, QLD, age 32, 9 caps, Jason Gillespie, SA, age 27, 35 caps,
Matthew Hayden, QLD, age 31, 34 caps, Justin Langer, WA, age 31, 55 caps,
Brett Lee, NSW, age 26, 24 caps, Darren Lehmann, SA, age 32, 6 caps,
Damien Martyn, WA, age 31, 29 caps, Glenn McGrath, NSW, age 32, 88 caps,
Ricky Ponting, TAS, age 27, 60 caps, Shane Warne, VIC, age 33, 105 caps.

The squad is unchanged from the one named for the first Orange Test in Brisbane, a match won by Australia by 384 runs.

Commenting on the chosen 12, Chairman of Selectors Trevor Hohns said: There was the option to select two spinners in the squad but we have retained the same balance of attack we had in Brisbane.

That balance, of three fast bowlers and one spinner in the final 11, has worked well for us in the past in most conditions and did the job well for us at the Gabba so we saw no reason to change that mix for this Test match."

So all depending on the performances of Lee and Bichel in their respective Pura Cup games starting today who do u think will get the last Bowling spot???

I don't think their performances in the Pura Cup games will matter and neither should they. Andy Bichel deserves an extended run as the first-change swing-bowler. Brett Lee should cool his heels for at least another Test after this one, dependent on how well Andy bowls.

I think that Bichs will play in the next test, but Bing will return for the 3rd test in Perth, and then will play out the rest of the series...

In saying this though, if Bing takes a stack of wickets in the Pura Cup game against SA then i think he may sneak into the side for Adelaide...

If Australia had fallen to the temptation to pick 2 spinners...who do you think they would have dropped?

Bit of a no-brainer, there. They'd drop the third seamer so in this case, Bichel would be dropped if there were two spinners needed.

I know Adelaide CAN turn a little sometimes, playing two spinners is a bit of overkill.

Sorry to say this to the English supporters but look for Hayden to make another hundred in Adelaide. He likes batting there even more than in Brisbane. He's belted the SA attack to all parts a few times (although doing that to the SA attack was never that difficult sometimes in the past.....:D) and so has Gilchrist. In fact, I think Gilchrist's lowest score on the Adelaide Oval in interstate games in 99*..........

LOL i thought he meant from the squad....

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

But yeah obviously Bichel would make way from the side...

And I agree with your points on Haydo's and Gilly, They love the ground cause of the short square boundaries...
U drop short to them there and its goodnight...

Yeah just to state I ment the squad. But do you think the Aussie Selectors would have been so bold to dump Lee? Ok...they've been pretty brutal already but dumping him from the squad after a 10 wicket hall would be quite harsh...but then the Aussies have never been noted for their Subtlety...

The thing is that the selectors would have had a much more tougher time explaining why Bichel had been left out yet Lee had been brought back in, At least with leaving lee out they could say they were after consistency, whereas Bichel has done nothing wrong...

Yeah he bowled quite well and didn't really have any luck...but he is 32 and Lee is younger...

Yeah but he is a workhorse and a toiler, he has given his life to cricket and has been the bridesmaid Australian quick for years and now they are rewarding him...

Im glad to say Lee seems to be almost back at full pace, He has just taken the wicket of Ben Johnson with a really quick Short Ball...

Good Signs...

Yeah but Lehmann belts 8 off his 1st full Lee over...doesn't look like he wants to help Lee back into form...

Well I was wrong about Gilchrist's lowest score on Adelaide but he still averages 82.5, and even that's a dip from how he started. In his first few games he averaged 130!

Matt Hayden averages 73.5 at Adelaide Oval in interstate games so he likes the Oval as well, as I said. He once scored a ton in each innings here.

Lee had an appeal dissallowed by Taufel, Johnson has had limited opportunity at SA but its good to see him make use of his chances this season, He is very capable of scoring BIG hundreds....

He's one of those batsmen who, once he gets in, ya really have to work hard to dig him out.

Ben Johnson is a pretty cool cat. He scored three tons last year from limited opportunities. Of those three, he carried his bat for two of them and was last man out for the third. Now THAT'S concentration!

To be honest, I think his lack of confidence against the short-ball is what has prevented him from playing any higher.
