    English Domestic Season 2025

Middlesex always looked a bit short after the dip in the middle-late stage of their innings. I always thought they Somerset had the chase in hand but the Rew brothers did indeed do well to settle it. Rew Jr started a little slowly but a chat with his brother seemed to prompt him to play more...

    English Domestic Season 2025

Gloucestershire’s finances are dire. The hierarchy there may not be unhappy about this exodus, even if the members are.

    Cricket Counterfactuals

Sri Lanka had been knocking on the door for a few years so I imagine they would have got test status in any event, even if delayed by a couple of years. As I see it, Glamorgan being a first class county, has always been the poisoned chalice for Wales as an independent cricketing entity. Its...

    Cricket Counterfactuals

A couple of English domestic decisions with wide ranging consequences: 1.What if the Gillette Cup, the first limited overs competition, had not been introduced in 1963? 2. What if someone on the ECB could do basic maths and realised that the 7 votes out of 19 against the introduction of the T20...

    English Domestic Season 2025

I saw it more positively and consider the increased use of outgrounds to be an upside of the competition. I like outgrounds generally and they are often ‘right-sized’ for the competition.

    English Domestic Season 2025

By design or accident, we have an all-outground round of matches to start the one day cup tomorrow.

    T20 Blast 2025

Sun stopped play at Canterbury. Again. As its timing is predictable, perhaps start times could be staggered so that the difficult period falls on the interval between innings.

    T20 Blast 2025

I went to Chesterfield yesterday and it was rammed to the gills. I haven’t seen an outground so packed for years. Seemed to be more from Yorkshire than Derbyshire.

    Domestic Cricket Changes (2025-26)

Halving the number of first class teams! I suppose it puts proposed cuts to the county championship into context.

    English Domestic Season 2025

I really don’t like the idea of a playoff to decide the championship or promotion.

    T20 Blast 2025

The contest that everyone’s looking forward to tonight is between the ground staff at Lord’s and The Oval. Who will get their ground ready for play first after the rain expected for most of the day in London?

    The Hundred could be scrapped

Thanks for info. I have never liked the idea of a play off or final in the first class game - it does not work well with the format. To be fair, an earlier conclusion to the Blast and a slight reduction in fixtures are not bad ideas.

    T20 Blast 2025

I went to a Second XI T20 game for the first time today. It is a much better experience without the music, announcements and general brouhaha.

    English Domestic Season 2025

Perhaps he’s going for the full set. Good on him for persistence however it must be clear after 9 years that it’s not to be.

    English Domestic Season 2025

Went to Lord’s today. Middlesex could have been in even greater trouble as Leicestershire dropped four catches by my reckoning, including Higgins thrice. The ball moved notably less after lunch. Hull’s pace looked well down.

    English Domestic Season 2025

According to some rumours you may get your wish next year. However as the season advances, the prospects of change to the schedule next year must surely diminish.

    English Domestic Season 2025

Some pitches have been pretty green, at least at the start of the matches. Moreover it has only really warmed up in the last few weeks.

    English Domestic Season 2025

I am intrigued as to how he will fare tomorrow.

    English Domestic Season 2025

Went to Northampton today. There was not a cloud in the sky but the pitch was greenish and there was movement for the seamers for most of the day. It was however chiefly the bounce in the pitch that the batsmen found difficult in the first half of the day. When the tail wagged I assumed that...
