Is Javed Miandad somewhat underrated and who was the best against the WIs in the 80s?

I think he is rated fine as the best batsman from Pakistan. There have been several better #4 batsmen so it is difficult for Miandad to get a spot in an all-time XI. Amarnath and Boycott have an excellent record against the quartet.

    2nd best ODI side?

There is barely any difference in ODI pitches around the world. If Bangladesh does well at home, it is reasonable to think that they will be good away from home too.

Cricketweb decides the greatest bowler ever in a 64 player bracket. Contest thread.

Is this about which bowler is more valuable for a team or which is the better bowler? Arguably a spinner like Muralitharan is more valuable for a team since he can bowl more overs than a fast bowler and as a result pick up more wickets. But that does not mean he is a better bowler.

If we are looking at who is the better bowler, than it doesn’t matter how many wickets he gets you per match. That is dependent on many external factors such as bowling more overs or not having as competition from other bowlers for getting the wickets. To see how skillful a bowler is...

    Mitchell Johnson Retires

Johnson is a test purist so he might not be interested in playing in that day/night match with the pink ball.

He played 6 matches in Australia before 1986 and 5 afterwards. So he faced those three batsman in three matches (in Australia). He also faced Mark Waugh, Dean Jones, David Boon, Allan Border, Mark Taylor etc afterwards. Either way this wasn't a very weak Australian line up.

If you consider the Australian batsman he bowled at, it does seem odd that he did better in Australia compared to home. It surely wasn't just because of the pitches. There are many factors apart from the pitch that affect bowling performances.

No he does not. http://www.howstat.com/cricket/statistics/Players/PlayerCountries.asp?PlayerID=0443 However even if he did, it wouldn't be only because of the pitches. Kapil's record in Australia is significantly better than his record at home. Is that only because Australian pitches were that...

Cricketweb decides the greatest bowler ever in a 64 player bracket. Contest thread.

It is a combination of factors. Coming from a country with helpful or unhelpful pitches does have a major impact. One of the reasons Lillee is rated so high despite not playing much outside of Australia and England is because he did well on flat Australian pitches (even though he became familiar...

If you are accustomed to a specific type of pitches you should have a very good record on it even if they do not fully support your bowling style. For instance Lyon has a good record in Australia but he hasn’t been very good in other countries (even if they are more spin friendly). If the...
