*Unofficial* New Zealand Black Caps Thread

https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/new-zealand-allrounder-corey-anderson-in-usa-squad-for-t20is-against-canada-1426911 Happy that Anderson still has a career. Would be a nice feel-good story if he’s able to turn out some good performances in the WC. But really, he is probably NZ’s biggest...

Why wasn't this player included for England in the 99 WC?

Knight was in the squad but was in bad form in the lead up. England made a last minute decision to drop him for Hussain. “Stewart: It was a decision made the afternoon before the opening game, which is wrong. We’d been inconsistent and Knighty had been inconsistent but if we had our time again...

Folks who don’t rate Wagner because “running in all day and banging it in short does not involve any real skill” should definitely look at others’ attempts to emulate him. Trouble is NZ seem to think of it as a go-to tactic. Needs to be un-learned IMO. And yes Cummins proved himself the most...

I thought for a moment Sears was going to do a Doug Bracewell and turn the game completely NZ’s way, given how he bowled that over. Probably not the worst thing for his personal development it didn’t work out, he’s promising but has a long way to go. Bracewell had a good run in the side on the...

Congratulations Australia. Not easy to win so clinically when you haven’t toured a place in 8 years and with a flaky batting lineup. But they had by far the better (and more intelligent) attack, and always seemed to find someone to stand up with the bat - Green, Marnus, Marsh, Carey, even Cummins.

I felt the bowling and tactics were equally crap during that 1-run win against England last year. That win really masked NZ’s questionable approach to defending mid-range totals. Wagner and KJ may have made a difference, but other than the short ball barrage not sure if NZ would have responded...

Yeah terrific chase, and richly deserved win though NZ were certainly not unlucky in this series except maybe with injuries. Dropping catches with regularity for a start. Most teams wouldn’t lose from having the opposition 34/4 and then 80 -odd for 5 in this chase.

Gotta ask serious questions of the senior folks in situations like this. While Carey and Cummins are superb and shown how to keep calm, NZ have made it too easy for them. Partnership at almost 6 an over a bit too much. Drying runs up doesn’t seem to factor in to the planning at all.

This looks done, but hope Henry is able to squeeze out one more. Deserves a 10 haul for carrying NZ this series.

Agreed, seems to have been an execution thing, can happen under pressure. There’s definitely stuff to work with but he’s far from the finished article.

He’ll probably be swayed by the 44 saying it kept NZ in the game.

Sears has bowled poorly since the double wicket. Seems a control thing, full and fast is probably the right idea but he’s just not getting it on target.

Cummins seems pretty comfortable against Phillips, think Henry might be needed again.

Exactly. Just because you’re in to a (capable) lower order can’t afford to stop trying to get Carey out.

Strayed down leg a bit since the hat trick ball. Sears needs to get the line right.

Rare brave move to keep going with Phillips in this situation. Would have been tempted to bring back Henry.

Thought that would be missing leg, quite lucky to get that call I thought but a lifeline for NZ. Good stuff Sears, shows what extra pace can do.

Yup excellent effort from this pair. Carey’s looked great when not facing spin, and while Marsh has ridden his luck he’s stuck to his guns brilliantly. NZ despite a lot of runs to play with have been pretty muddled in response.

Yeah in these situations it’s easy to go searching too hard when creating pressure through tight bowling should be the key, like Phillips is doing to Carey. Thought it was pretty similar in that 1-run win against England last year. The seniors should really be doing their bit.
