*Official* Road to the 2025-26 Ashes

Yeh and I’m not against that. But I’m also for rewarding guys making good shield runs over a decent period of time when the test incumbents have been mediocre. Having a fully firing Labuschagne is obviously ideal with Khawaja going (should be gone) and Smith getting older. But I can’t stand the...

*Official* Road to the 2025-26 Ashes

So let’s just say at your local cricket club there’s a guy who plays A grade and has for years, and has averaged 20 something at number 3 over the last couple of years, and there’s a guy in B grade who’s averaged 57 last season. Just keep going with the incumbent?

Correct, and this incumbency/entitled thing needs to be dispensed with. Marnus has also said to media something along the lines of “I’m willing to come back and open or bat at #3”. I mean, sure mate. You’re talented and you could. But the way you do that is making a few FC hundreds and pushing...

*Official* Road to the 2025-26 Ashes

Weatherald and Patterson both made good runs in the shield, while Khawaja (apart from one good innings) was mediocre at best over the last two years. He’s also almost 39. There’s not 20 guys but there’s a few who deserve a chance over Khawaja justifying why he’s still there on any criteria that...

And you make a snide comment. And life goes on. I’m picking the two best performing Shield batsmen to open (the best opener and the best #3 who has succeeded at test level). Both had excellent FC seasons. Konstas will be good but get the pressure off him and let him spend a year in the Shield...

*Official* Road to the 2025-26 Ashes

I'd like to see Aus go with: Jake Weatherald Kurt Patterson/Matt Renshaw Steve Smith Cam Green Travis Head Beau Webster Alex Carey Would feel a lot more confident than Khawaja/Konstas opening. It wont happen though.

Yeh full blown oversight that one!

I’m fine with you rating Bevan over Ponting based on that if that’s your criteria 👍

The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

I’ve posted elsewhere a long time ago why I think Bevan is a bit of a myth. He’d not make my Aus first XI ever but I’d consider him for the second XI happily. Hard disagree that Bevan > Ponting or Jones though.

What would Viv Richards average if he played in the difficult period of the modern era (2010 - current)?

I doubt Lillee would’ve kicked Viv like that lol

What would Viv Richards average if he played in the difficult period of the modern era (2010 - current)?

He’d damage bowlers with modern bats. Psychologically and physically.

    All-time Australia XIs - A re-run

Genuine question for discussion: why do people rate Hayden as one of the best two openers Aust have produced? I always felt he was suspect against true quality pace (which is obviously true to some extent of every opener), but in a mythical atg situation where he’s facing...

    Australian test selection 2025/26

Fair bit of chit-chat around about some players and their place in the team. Moving on from the WTC loss, what selection changes would you make, if any?
