*Unofficial* New Zealand Black Caps Thread

I called it a while ago, Nicholls is going to break Lara's record and it will be beautiful.

That's an insane record by Latham. The only one similar I can think of is McCullum.

Nicholls is going to break Lara's record in this series isn't he.

Which they of course schedule in the middle of our home summer just like the Champions Trophy. We are getting ****ed over. Also, why is there a T20 World Cup every 2 years?

    Lets all laugh at Australia

Which I recall was adapted to "Stone the Crowe's" in reference to Martin & Jeff on one tour.

*Official* WTC FINAL Australia vs South Africa 2025

It probably was although people get burned out, miss their family (I think that was major reason he gave for retiring). It's good he eventually recognised that and stepped away.

They have not. That is uncanny.

Maharaj with an all-time great post-match speech.

Happy for South Africa particularly given this history. As a Black Caps fan I can relate.

OTOH, if he tried to be more attacking and got out he would absolutely cop it. EDIT: Then he almost runs himself out 😅

I'm obviously late to the party on Markram being a palindrome. Now going down the rabbit hole and see there was a thread about palindromic cricketers. And some trainspotter on Reddit posted this.

Good relatively in-depth article on Walter with some comments from Roger Twose on what impressed the panel. https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/sport/563325/new-black-caps-coach-rob-walter-a-planner-relationship-builder-and-test-purist

I think Walter will be excellent but I would have loved to see Bond get the job. He seemed to do a great job when he was used as a bowling coach and sounds like he did well as head coach at the Sydney Thunder. Maybe lack of head coaching experience in NZ was the difference but seems like a...

The claim was that the team is going to be hampered in future. I don't think that's the case as there are loads of guys who are ready to step up now. I don't know of any tournaments we would have fared better with different selections? Maybe Conway should have played the Champions Trophy final...

True, Ravindra made the squad because Bracewell was injured. But they did open with him in a trial game where he got 90 odd. Then when Williamson was injured went with him rather than say Chapman which would have been the more conservative option. I mean I agree Stead tended to opt for veterans...

I think this kind of criticism was more on the mark a couple of years ago (or at latest in terms of persevering with Southee). If you look at the past two seasons O'Rourke, Sears, Foulkes, Smith have been introduced with reasonable success. Henry has stepped up to lead the attack now Southee...

From that article. Praise from Kane. Highlights This record will probably never be bettered. Although the obvious lowlights were 3-0 losses in Australia and England. I think this current group have the ability to do better next time we tour Australia if O'Rourke and Jamieson can stay fit.

    *Official* Bangladesh A v New Zealand A

Foxcroft resurgence continues. Good partnership with Foulkes to bring it home. Nice to see the spinners Ashok and Lennox faring well too and Mariu looking reasonably assured (just watched the highlights).
