    Can anyone explain to me why the exact injury Hughes suffered is such a freak occurrence? Is it because catastrophic damage from a ball hiting that area of the neck is extremely rare, or simply because being hit in that part of the neck in the first place is a freak occurrence?

    Yeah the 'odd' aspects of his technique have so often been used to paint a picture of him, but the timing and aesthetics of a lot of his shots, like the ones you mention, are simply sublime. Was such a naturally gifted player.

    By all accounts one of the mosy unassuming people in cricket. For this to happen to someone like that is just devastating. One of my favourite cricketers and will sadly miss being able to follow his career. RIP.

    This is so, so tragic. I'm a bit baffled by why it took almost an hour for Hughes to reach St Vincent's when the SCG is only about 1.5ks away. Was he needing to be stabilised or something before they were willing to transport him? Surely with injuries like these timing is everything. Really hope...

    yeah think most things could be improved somewhat but it's still a far better situation than without it. Agree that the no-ball thing is the biggest issues atm though. Takes so much away from the flow of the game.
