The Future of New Zealand cricket

Bcci = Icc India not touring NZ in retaliation? They did that a couple of years ago because they didn't want to tour just before the WC, and the ICC let them; so no great loss there. As someone else alluded to, the ICC would have to be more crocked than a Zimbabwean president to stop NZ...

The Future of New Zealand cricket

It depends ... I think NZC's fate remans dire while John Bracewell and the current administration are retained. Bracewell is the worst coach NZ has had in decades due to his inconsistent selections, favouritism of certain players and his personal dislike of others, his problems with the...

Should 2nd county division be counted as FC?

I believe that games played in county cricket's second division should not count towards first class averages. You get players like Hamish Marshall, who averaged less than 25 in NZ FC cricket, going over and playing in the second division and averaging more than 50.

    Bracewell gets two more years

Which is why I said, "someone like Frank Worrel". Essentially I meant a WI legend. Hasn't Clive Lloyd coached the Windies at some stage?

    Bracewell gets two more years

I thought the Windies had a coach during the 80's. Someone like Frank Worrell? Anyway, counties had coaches back then didn't they? I thought NZ took on a coach in the mid 80's. Turner has coached NZ on two occasions; the first time being in the 80's I think. Warren Lees was coach around 1990.

    Bracewell gets two more years

There was another John Reid in the 80's. I believe he averaged around 50 with the bat in tests. Why did it take England so long to employ a coach? I know coaches weren't very common until the 70's but does England have to be conservative about everything? Bracewell hasn't enjoyed much...

    Bracewell gets two more years

I generally agree. Taylor is a great talent, but he shouldn't be in the team if he loses form. And he has never had the FC form that Crowe showed early in his career. In my opinion Crowe was perseveered with too long initially, but did achieve his potential by 1985.

    Bracewell gets two more years

Under Duncan Fletcher England became consistently the worst ODI team among the true test nations. Yes, I believe that qualifies Fletcher's comparison to Bracewell. So how does Fletcher qualify as England's best ever coach? England has, after all, been the best test nation in the past, not...

    Bracewell gets two more years

Fairly good test and ODI teams Pup. Firstly, Fulton deserves to be in the test and ODI teams - and he should be batting higher than Styris in both forms of the game. I think he should now open the batting in ODIs with Vincent, after showing considerable promise opening in the WC; Fleming...

    Bracewell gets two more years

The sooner Bracewell realises what specialist batsman are - particularly openers - the better NZ will perform. You shouldn't expect a middle order FC batsman to immediately transform into a test batsman. And he could do with learning that specialist bowlers and batsmen are required in ODIs -...

    Bracewell gets two more years

How so? NZ has gone from #2 to #7 in the test rankings - only ahead of West Indies of the top test nations. In ODIs NZ has become an inconsistent team that badly under-performs in matches that count, despite a greater talent pool than has been seen in more than 20 years. Bracewell is...

    Bracewell gets two more years

Worst possible outcome for NZC What a bloody ridiculous decision: keeping incompetent Bracewell and bringing in support coaches to compensate for his inadequacies - rather than just finding a better coach! The only way forward for NZ in the next few years is through the development of young...

    Bob Woolmer 'was not murdered'

I find the findings incredibly difficult to believe, as will many others.

    How good COULD Pakistan be?

Pakistan has the potential to be the best cricketing nation, if only big business was not in control of the PCB and the board stayed out of the selection process. After all, Pakistan has produced a wealth of fine batsmen, spin bowlers, and fast bowlers in the last 20 years. It would also...

    Pietersen 2nd to Bradman?

As much as I think Bradman's average is unrealistically high, Bradman is leagues ahead of Pietersen; as was Viv Richards, Graeme Pollock, and many others. Ponting is far superior to Pietersen in every aspect other than arrogance - as they are about even.

    The future of NZ bowling?

I wouldn't give up on Gillespie yet. Sure, I was annoyed by his form in the WC, but it's not as though he was in the best shape. His form in FC & OD cricket has been good in recent years. Bradley Scott from Otago looks to have a reasonable future. I know most of you will disagree but I think...

Vincent set to quit New Zealand

Only if Bracewell isn't there to cut his legs out from under him.

Jesse Ryder set to quit NZ for England

What an arrogant tosser he has turned out to be. Amusing considering his very average season for Wellington. He did better with the ball than bat, and he's only the third change bowler at best; I believe this adequately sums up his recent performances with the bat. NZC should tell him to...

Where to for NZ cricket in the next few years?

Yes Parore did. That was because NZ had no decent batsmen other than Astle and Fleming during the 90s.

Where to for NZ cricket in the next few years?

Yes, Nicol and Vincent deserve to be in my list. Oram has a good test record but has had no consistent batting form in any cricket in the last few years. The few scores in the ODIs in AUS were the minor exception. Fulton and Sinclair both should be batting at #3 or #4 ahead of Styris or...
