Is Javed Miandad an ATG test batsman?

Then Johan's post was pointless. Who cares if Hadlee went off injured if Miandad was on a million not out already.

Is Javed Miandad an ATG test batsman?

Reading up on this, Miandad apparently did have a single chance in his innings, on 66 surviving a “very tough” c&b chance against Hadlee. Hadlee went out of the attack on the second morning before lunch, Miandad was 154 at the close of play Day 1

*Official* India tour of England 2025 General Discussion

...in England would be the 1991 West Indies series and the 1998 South Africa series where in the first instance there was one of the greatest innings played of all time by Graham Gooch (v Marshall/Ambrose/Walsh) and the latter with the Atherton/Donald battle and a couple of games that really...

How is that transferable? WI of Botham's time is well beyond any attack Jadeja has faced unless I'm missing something.

Is Javed Miandad an ATG test batsman?

Wasn't Miandad already 200+ by the point Hadlee got injured?

...those not outs those indeed often comes in situations where the batsman could have added decently more runs (eg, all 4 games in England 4th innings) in dumb as well. Aus and Eng mostly yes. Those are ones that really counts. And he performed there unlike Botham in WI. Something we definitely...

5th Test (The Oval) - 31st July to 4th August

I must watch this because I catch a few Kimber vids and articles and he does not rate Pope. I think he is kinder to Crawley!

Congrats you excluded when Jadeja and Imran batting higher than 6 for pretty much no stated reason because you know it will make Imrans average lower because you just want Jadeja to look better. Imran has a worldclass ton at no.5 better than any Jadeja has scored and you just ignore it entirely...

5th Test (The Oval) - 31st July to 4th August

Kimber did a video on it recently. Apparently he suffers from the same thing as Smith where he really struggles to sleep during a Test. Smith has a similar second innings drop off. Pope also has a serious issues with spin, which is more pronounced in the second innings.

    Kapil/Jadeja vs Botham/Flintoff

haven’t we established that average is a better metric than rpi. look I’m struggling with this too, because Botham is such a giant of my childhood and Jadeja is well… Jadeja but the numbers have begun to overwhelm me

    Kapil/Jadeja vs Botham/Flintoff

Bothams runs per innings away (31) is almost the same as Jadejas (32) so the batting output away isn't as big a gulf as you think. The away bowling gulf however is. Botham was the better all rounder away from home Home batting their batting output is also roughly equal (Botham slightly ahead)...

    Better All Rounder Pair

I will comfortably take Jadeja over IK to bat at 6 or lower. Jadeja : 118 innings - 31 times 50+ with avg 39 batting at 6 or lower Imran : 121 innings - 23 times 50+ with avg 36 batting at 6 or lower Jadeja has batted less times than IK at 6 or lower and yet has drastically higher 50+ scores...

...going to be frequent when playing that low but good batsman should be able to score 50 runs. Jadeja with 31 times with fifty or more in 118 innings is very good output. It's actual contribution and not simply average due to not outs. If a batsman is going to cross fifty only 10-15 times...

5th Test (The Oval) - 31st July to 4th August

He seems to get a lot of good balls, is he unlucky, or is it more that his balance issues make the good balls look unplayable?

5th Test (The Oval) - 31st July to 4th August

He's not great vs the ball coming back in, isn't amazing vs spin, and a shaky starter. These become exhaserbated in 3th/4th innings when there's more in it for the spinners/pacers get more inconsistent bounce.

    Better All Rounder Pair

I just think it's fundamentally disingenuous having watched Jadeja to think since 2016 he was a top 6 quality bat. I would say that only in the last four years really when he started scoring tons.

5th Test (The Oval) - 31st July to 4th August

Supposedly he’s like Steve Smith in that he gets so fixated that he struggles to sleep over the course of a Test match, although that’s where the similarities to Smith end (he hasn’t been banned from captaining his country for one)

...with the higher ceiling. Also, Botham doesn't have many not outs because that's a trade-off for very aggressive batsmen. I will take his 14 hundreds and much larger run threshold when batting with the tail in return for the comparatively small downside of finishing few of his innings unbeaten.

5th Test (The Oval) - 31st July to 4th August

He looks a jittery, overanxious batsman at the best of times. Not a surprise he melts under pressure in second innings. For a while I used to think of him as Ian Bell's successor but turns out Bell, fragile as he could be, was a model of composure compared to this guy.
