Introducing cricket to a new country and audience

Watching Champions League match in primetime on Eurosport 2 as one mate from the newsroom just asked me these days when will be the cricket again shown on television. Commentary is OK, pretty accurate and pro, guys got accustomed with the game alright. So I declare the "introducing" part done...

    Favourite sport? (Cricket excluded)

yes, the cricket world looks messy lately, like in times of transition... the problem with cricket I feel it's the colonial heritage, too much of a Commonwealth thing and not much is done to create global exposure. that's why Eurosport with its T20 broadcasts is so valuable. and remember Holland...

    Favourite sport? (Cricket excluded)

Tests won't be anytime soon, but you never know. in the meanwhile there are some 6 clubs in the country, they would do well to start a league...

Introducing cricket to a new country and audience

Don't look now, but one of the main TV stations was interested to produce a piece of news about the triangular between teams from Romania, Bulgaria and Hungary which took place in the last weekend of June in Bucharest. So, really, you never know.

Introducing cricket to a new country and audience

I just needed to tell the story of the last ball of the Don, my favourite cricketing story by far, for its drama and symbolism (hailed hero falls just short of a landmark, still remains the best in his field).

    2 Tier test system

not bad at all, lest it turns into a dividing stance like in European rugby between 6 Nations... nations and European Cup of Nations participants. There would have to be, like in rugby, regular opportunities for B-tiered teams to meet A squads from the better countries. With three formats on...

Introducing cricket to a new country and audience

So, folks, all in all the first cricketing TV experience in Romania with local commentary was a success. During and after the final quite a few people landed on my blog with cricket-related google searches. The rugby commentators mentioned cricket a few times during the IRB Nations Cup games of...

Introducing cricket to a new country and audience

They were discussing cricket in Romania, talked about the (very few) local clubs, then went on to mention a topic I started on a Romanian sports forum (with 3, maybe 4 participants, and me doing the bulk of the talking), then finally called me by name as a fan who's writing to them and has good...

Group E - England, India, South Africa, West Indies

Very good game, glad I could see it on TV almost entirely (and being mentioned by name by the guys commentating). The Jadeja thing was key, he should have sacrificed himself if he felt it wasn't his day.
