    The Cook Report

Cook was, at one time, one of the very best batsmen going but I always had the impression he was at his best when Strauss was around and then later Trott and KP. Since those guys have left, Cook has not been the best at shouldering his responsibility and although he gets the big score (inflating...

***Official*** Pakistan in New Zealand 2017/18

Pakistan have been there and there abouts in the series. The batting has looked ok and then slumped, the bowling has been good in spurts. I think there needs to be a couple of changes. First, if Zaman is fully fit, he fits right in but I'd prefer he go in with the younger Imam, rather than Ali...

    Vernon Philander transformation

Philander started off as a top, line and length bowler and has maintained that quality. Apart from his physique, not much has transformed.

    Mitchell Starc v. Vernon Philander

Maybe that's how you see it, but the best of anything has to be the best across formats. The ODI game is important too and philander isn't close to Starc's level in that. This whole idea that only test cricket matters is so outdated, I assume most of you here are even older than me.

    Ashes predictions

Well there we are. England's highest run maker. Of all the people tried in England's middle order in recent times, he is the one to stick with.

Kohli's problems are not mental. He has a technical fault which gets him out, outside of off, almost every time. He gets away with it on the low, slow wickets of India with no swing. You can't get away with it against the quality the SA line up has or the conditions rain can create. It is a...

Would Jimmy Anderson make Australia's full strength side?

So you would drop the 3 highest wicket takers in this series and insert Jimmy. Who would you drop?

A lot of those guys are in a position to play till 2019, some beyond, so only another 2 batsmen are needed tbf. I think the bowling is a bigger issue. There needs to be players who are better outside of their own conditions. Anyway, it's still a very good team, let's see what happens tonight.

cmon, someone get himanv to take his picks or should I take mine?

That is very true but he could have dug in, tried to grit it out, taken some deliveries and overs out of the game. In the end, he played just 13 balls. For a top order batsman, that is painful.

    Babushka draft

A very good idea for a draft and it is fun seeing some of the teams popping up. the guy above me has clearly done his research

    Mitchell Starc v. Vernon Philander

Starc is still the better, faster, ACTUAL fast bowler. Don't get me wrong, philander is terrific but if I had to pick a team to play across formats in all conditions, I'd pick Starc and think so would anyone. None of that stops Philander being world class, it just means Starc is even better.

Would Jimmy Anderson make Australia's full strength side?

Again, I am not knocking what Jimmy can do. It's not that long ago that he looked like pure magic here in the home summer. My point is, at this point, would the majority pick him over the Aussie pace line up, I just don't think so.

Absolutely toothless from India. A much vaunted batting line up falls apart yet again when things aren't going their way. The bowlers bowled their hearts out and set up a great winning position. If you have to lose, at least show some fight, some guts, some mettle. Plus, Ashwin might as well be...

Beautiful from Morkel today. His line is good, just a hint of swing and good pace. PLus, it has taken him a while but over the last several months, he has understood the importance of sometimes pitching it on a good length, rather than always being short. Great point brought up by former skipper...

Would Jimmy Anderson make Australia's full strength side?

Number one rankings don't mean anything to me. Sport is more than just stats. Yes he is still bowling well but we're talking about him potentially bowling better than Starc, Hazlewood or Cummins, which he is not.

I still think this is India's game to lose. As the afternoon wears on, the conditions will only get better for batting and the skies have also cleared. The pitch will dry up and sill offer some pace and bounce, but it should be enough to contend with.
