"With potentially maybe one more or a couple more debutants as well,” Santner said.'

Reported in The NZ Herald - 'Santner confirmed that Jacob Duffy will make his test debut, replacing O’Rourke. “He’s been so good, especially in the white-ball stuff for us the last couple of years. He’s been in the hatches waiting and he’s getting his opportunity which is outstanding. With...

Chapman is playing in The Hundred in England. Nicholls failed in the last test, he is halfway out the door again. The batsmen heading away on the NZ A tour should know their assignment: it is time for someone to beat the door down with consistency and sheer weight of runs. Someone needs to put...

‘Tom Latham has been ruled out of the second Test against Zimbabwe after failing to recover from his left shoulder injury. Latham, who was withdrawn from the first Test, had been rehabilitating the injury but was unable to pass a fitness test on the eve of the match. Auckland Aces batter Bevon...

I think it was mainly white ball cricket O’Rourke played for Yorkshire.

Yes, it was indeed. Henry still got through 36.3 overs in the time available & showed the benefit of his recent time playing country cricket.

Definitely not saying we should never play Zimbabwe, my comment was about how bowlers are often severely underdone going into some red ball series'.

This injury situation just shows the dangers of going into a 5 day test off the back of a diet of intermittent T20 matches and air travel. It's too cavalier and a recipe for disaster. Not sure what the solution though.

"We are hopeful it's nothing too serious," New Zealand bowling coach Jacob Oram said. "When he's so important to our side for the next six to eight months but also next year with all the Test cricket, we've got some big tours, we need to make sure we look after the big guy and make sure that...

Very little coverage of this tour by the NZ on-line and print media, the articles are basically whatever NZC puts out and not a lot else.

Will O’Rourke ruled out of Zimbabwe Test ‘BLACKCAPS pace bowler Will O’Rourke has been ruled out of the second Test in Bulawayo with a back injury. O’Rourke experienced back stiffness on day three of the BLACKCAPS nine-wicket victory last week after taking three for 28 from his 10 overs in the...

There's a strong chance they will go in with 4 seamers. Being reduced to a seam attack of Henry and Mitchell in the first test will have put the wind up them. Santner showed he could hold down the spin side of the equation with Bracewell being pretty ineffectual.

I think they'll rest O'Rourke. Imagine if he ended up with a stress fracture bowling against Zimbabwe after having issues with back stiffness in the previous test. The criticism would be off the charts. We can't afford to take any chances. If there are question marks over the experience levels...

I’d expect Nicholls to drop out if Latham is fit for the next test, and then if Kane is available going forward that pretty much shuts the door on Nicholls.

Any time I hear an NZ quick has back stiffness which is precluding them from playing I get a feeling of dread. Usually they get sent for scans and the news is often awful. Very quickly our vulnerabilities are exposed with a cloud over O’Rourke, Sears lurching from injury to injury and Jamieson...

I'm just living in hope and looking for mitigation at the moment. NZC handed Nicholls a new contract for one. There may also have been a feeling that with the absence of Williamson, Latham, and GP another experienced hand was needed. I still think there is a fair bit of water to go under the...

'If you can't make it here you won't make it anywhere' to paraphrase the old Frank Sinatra song. I am sure if there are flops amongst the old stagers from this tour of Zimbabwe then RW will start easing people out the door. It's tough for the new coach to come in and make a bunch of changes on...
