S Africa calls for its players to stay

So you fail to pick your best team, so your national team doesn't win as often. With the poor results the sports profile drops. The team knows their not the best players, so you impact their self belief, their not the best side in the nation and they know it. All in the hope you might inspire...

Top Ten ODI cricketers of All Time

Firstly it is not just that Aus have won 5 ODI World Cups to the RoW 6, but they have also been ranked the number one team for 198 months compared to the RoW 219 months. (WI are 2nd at 99 months) Stats are always unreliable but that sort of dominance has to have some sort of basis in reality...

    Long term bets..

Depends if you want your number 6 to bowl, most Australians put Miller at 6 to give 5 genuine bowlers. Waugh is the best bowler over GC, Border and Ponting.

ICC seriously considers 2 divisions,7/5 split.

Imagine what Voges average would be if Aus played several minnows in succession...then again he might not get a chance to bat. Maybe we need to encourage teams from 2nd tier into domestic leagues, Ireland counties in English CC, Afghanistan into Pakistan, Sheffield Sheild could have a PNG team...

    Was Bradman a jerk?

Australia had a considerable sectarian division, in his day, which most Australians today find hard to comprehend. this clearly lead to a division in the team. Bradman was a teetotaler in a nation and especially a sport that loved a drink. Miller is almost praised for his inability to be...

***Official*** Australia in New Zealand 2016

Following Cricinfo, they indicated that it may have been bottom of bat on ground not ball. However this is the problem with the current review and players being able to see the reviews on the screen. Players get to spend time deciding to review and then get to watch what is happening of course...

***Official*** Australia in New Zealand 2016

Reverse is more troublesome (like most swing) when it is added to pace. 150 and moving an inch, is tougher to face then 130 and moving a foot.

CW decides another one, the greatest All-Rounder ever. 32 players, Nomination thread!

Only one Australia in the 21 so far, given Australia's Test dominance it is an interesting stat.... Doug Walters Richie Benaud Monty Noble Steve Waugh

"Could've been champions" ATG Australia 1 Sid Barnes -Dropped for reasons other then cricket ability, out averaged Bradman in a tour 2 Phillip Hughes -Early Death 3 Archie Jackson - Early Death 4 Brad Hodge -Being a Victorian, dropped with an average of 58 5 Darren Lehmann - Being tubby didnt...

The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

Southern Team -A side without a tail, number 10 with 25 batting average, Hayden G Smith (B Richards strong chance except for lack of tests, Lawry, Simpson and maybe Warner in the next 5 years) Bradman G Pollock G Chappell Kallis Flower/Gilchrist/ABD - too many choices for keeper\batsman Miller...

The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

Hemispheric team would make as much sense, so North verse South Southern team Aus, SA, NZ, Zim Northern team Eng, WI, India, Pak, SL If you look at ICC stats for top 100 peak scores Southern team has 42 in batting and 43 in bowling Northern team has 48 batting and 47 in bowling If the 70's...

The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

Surely Miller at 6 and Harvey at 5? My list... Hayden Lawry - Plenty of dash in the rest of line up, need an accumulator (Warner might replace him in the next 5 years but Simpson could easily fit in as well) Bradman Ponting Harvey Miller Gilchrist Davidson ~Leftie for variety and strengthens...

Greatest keeper batsman - Gilchrist or Sangakkara?

Look at the Aus v Rest of World, RoW were woeful, their individual brillance on a paper ability didn't match Aus team in either 1 day or test. As the saying goes, "A champion team will be beat a team of champions" Any composite group wihtout some sort of cohesive glue will fall apart quickly IMHO.

Greatest keeper batsman - Gilchrist or Sangakkara?

I have always had the impression that Aussie's favour lower order batsman who can score quickly, more so then other countries. Top order guys can take some time, but lower order should got on with it or get out. A 7or8 who scores 60 80 but takes 3 hours and means that the game is drawn.is not...

    Was Stokes Out?

In Australian football (more often in the past) when a team is being soundly beaten, they will start a skuffle or fight, in the hopes to throw the other team off their game and rev there side up for the contest. I wonder if Morgan outrage was to throw the aussie off there game and gel his team...

    2nd best batsman ever

Voted Sobers to boost his numbers just because I don't think Tendulkar is the 2nd best, definitely Sobers, Hammond, Hobbs all IMHO deserve to be ranked above Tendulkar.

    Was Stokes Out?

He was not in the line between the ball and stumps, he was not line with where the ball was moving. His movement was to move something into the line of the ball and the between the stumps and the ball's line, that is his arm You might argue that his hand movement was due to his body spinning...

    *Official* 3rd Test at Edgbaston

I think Ponting at 942 (Hobbs is 942 as well) is a more realistic target or even Hutton at 945. Smith is a real chance of being No2 on ICC points system... Purely on ICC ranking he would make the Australian side ATG ICC points side. 3 Bradman 961, 4 Ponting 942 , 5 Smith 936 Hayden 935 as...
