Is Dale Steyn the worst ever best fast bowler in the world?

While hadlee was an exellent bowler, I wouldnt rate him higher than most of the bowlers listed. Lillee, Holding, Roberts, Marshal where more dangerous on flat wickets. While Lindwall, Miller did not take Austalia, they did take Australia to a different Level in the late 40's.

The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

During the WA University investigation into Fast Bowling In the 70's, they estimated the speed of past fast bowlers like Lindwall from film recordings. For Lindwall they had speeds in the low 90's (93 ???) mph. The other point for all these 'old' bowlers, there is very limited film available...

The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

There was the match in the 70/71 season against England that was washed out with out a ball being bowled, an extra match was added to the series as a replacement. This washed out match is for the most part is not counted in Test match stats. This could be the difference.

The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

According to the Wisden article, the 100+ average was a little contrived, but a lot of fun for those involved. Just seamed to me an attack of Pace: Lillee, McGrath, Miller, Johnston WA Spin: Warne, Johnston WA is a bit better balanced than the alternatives

Overall 3 pace bowlers with O'Reilly / Warne is probably the best option for Australia. Both had excellent first innings bowling averages, and both would be dangerous on the first day of the Test. Most off-spinners (left / right arm) tend to struggle in the first innings. Another option...

    Early era batsmen

From what I know Nash, he was never picked for a shield game by Victoria, he did play the odd match for Tasmania / Exhibition game. If you have not read it, the bodyline and test come back sections of the Wikipeadia article Laurie Nash - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia are worth a look...

    Early era batsmen

If you haven't read this article in the Age, I would suggest having a look at it. The article does give: 1) Australian batting averages through ages 2) How the leading Australian batsmen performed relative to the rest of the Team. One interesting character was William Murdoch (Contempory of...

The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

Slight correction, Greg Chappell started as Leg spinner but swapped to Medium pace (Swing / cutters) around the start of his Test career. If you have a closer look at Gregs bowling average, it starts high for the first 2/3 years then gets better (with odd bad year) to 82 then drops again I...

The value of Anil Kumble was underestimated

Most ATG fast bowlers bowl some where near there Wicket per test limit (Why bowl second rate bowler when you have a ATG bowler in the side). All bowler's Wickets per Test count is limmited by (the number of Overs he can bowl per test) / (Strike Rate). For most fast bowlers (including...

The value of Anil Kumble was underestimated

There is a lot to like about Kumble Great stamina, sustained pressure for long periods of time Tremendous fighter - never gave up. Bowlers like Kumble can be the difference between winning on the fifth day and letting the opposition escape with a Draw. After 2000, India had a lot of Great...

Pakistan ATG Team - Open Voting

I would agree with kyear2 Barnes average Average=21.58, StrikeRate=54 against Australis is not as good as McGrath Average / Strike-Rate. Batsmen where averaging 50+ in McGrath's day while in Barnes day batsmen mostly averaged < 40. Lillee's Average / Strike Rate Against England is better...
