    In his 11 matches before Shukri Conrad became coach, Mulder averaged 14.31 with the bat. Since Conrad took over it's been 46.72 (not including this match), so giving him a proper run in the side has definitely paid off.

    We should get to 10 with the second test. 11 is going to be tough though, since the test after that is India at Eden Gardens. Any chance of arranging a test against Ireland while we're in England? :laugh:

    It's weird. Mulder got promoted to number 3 in the match against Sri Lanka where he was injured which was a strange enough decision, but then they decided that's where he should now bat. I know Shukri Conrad now has a proven track record with his selections, but this one just doesn't make sense...

    I'm not convinced Bosch is a good enough bowler to to play him and Mulder. It should be one or the other, with the third seamer being a specialist. Who that should be is up for grabs at the moment, but that does have a lot to do with so many of them having been injured.

    Stubbs' record at 3 is actually better than his record at 4 or 5, although it is a small sample size. That doesn't necessarily mean that 3 is where he should be batting, but I don't think you can call trying him a 3 a failed experiment.

    He was not out for three of those innings, so you can't criticise him for not making 50 in those, but he is starting to be on thin ice.

    I think De Zorzi might be kept around because he's an opener, even though he may have lost ground to Rickelton. But Breetzke's definitely in danger of slipping behind Pretorius and Brevis in the pecking order.

    His first-class bowling average is 36, so it does look like he hasn't been too consistent with the ball. It's quite possible that people have tried to pick him as a frontline bowler when that doesn't seem to be the right role for him. The question now is how well he'll bowl for South Africa...

    That'll be down to not outs, which indicates that he may have a tendency to run out of partners. Which then makes you wonder why he hasn't been pushed up the order.

    Also, he's been selected for a test match. Many players wouldn;t care where they batted if they were given the opportunity to play.

    I did wonder how bad Bavuma's injury was and whether he'd be OK for the series. That leaves us with hardly any experience in the batting, which isn't ideal, even if it is against Zimbabwe.

    I was holding it together, but that cheer when Bavuma's name was called got me. I've lived through it all, from 1992 onwards. It's been long road, but this is the greatest moment for me as a South African cricket fan.
