What we learned from the 5th Test

I wouldn't look at it that way. It would be a reward for NZ having the versatility in their XI to cover an in-game injury. They deserve an advantage in that scenario for added skills and good team selection

What we learned from the 5th Test

for mine the issue there isn't that Woakes didn't get a sub, but that a sub shouldn't be able to keep. Don't know why they changed that rule but it really needs to be changed back

    Like for like injury replacements

I figure it's a case of "we don't really want subs at all, but legally we will be ****ed if someone concussed keeps playing and can end up suing us"

Makes sense as a safety issue though. You're more likely to play through a concussion and risk more serious injury/death than other injuries

What we learned from the 5th Test

Didn't Pant drop a few crucial catches early in the series?

What we learned from the 5th Test

You would definitely know better than me, and I choose to trust your analysis over that of the notoriously delusional English It was a different case when Saha took over in Aus though

you are doing the same thing though

What we learned from the 5th Test

forgive me if don't take your (or HB's) opinions at face value. I'm equally skeptical of those expressed by the English on this forum which differ vastly from yours to say the least. Maybe it didn't benefit India much, I'm open to the possibility (though skeptical based on various reports I've...

What we learned from the 5th Test

Everyone is entitled to an opinion but thinking thay didn't benefit India in those games is a terrible opinion

Bump. Been a lot of discussion about this recently. I've been swayed a it by some arguments. Still don't think it would be worth the trouble it would cause but good points being made on both sides

Players who did well as understudy but never stepped up?

I reckon Anderson actually would have been ok this series. Wouldn't have taken bags of wicket but at his best would have held up an end. Like 20 overs 1-40
  13. TheJediBrah

What we learned from the 5th Test

This is definitely not true. India benefited from when it happened in Aus the tour before last and the first time this series. The replacement keeper did a much better job than a fully fit Pant would have and Pant batted better than that other keeper would have. There were English supporters...

What we learned from the 5th Test

How would that negate the "freshness factor"? Getting a new bowler that has been resting for 3 days rather than bowling/fielding for an innings

*Official* Road to the 2025-26 Ashes

England's chance of winning will be if the Aus selectors refuse to "rest" the bowlers and Boland misses the whole series on the sidelines
  18. TheJediBrah

What we learned from the 5th Test

Correct close catching I don't see the big deal, but keeping definitely. The situation that has happened twice with Pant now has been a farce

The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

Hard to compare. ODIs became such a different sport in that time. Even in Dhoni's time it had changed a lot. Bevan was late 90s, tougher batting conditions and smaller bats where you couldn't blast sixes at will late in the innings. You had stronger bowling, generally full strength attacks...

Yeah but probably the only one if so, or maybe ABdV too. Whereas there are at least a dozen that can fill Ponting's role.
