Are tons really that impressive in this era?

Most of the guys piling on the runs are more than above average though. Smith, Kohli, Root, Williamson etc were all regarded as major talents before they entered the Test arena and their recent output is getting them in line with their First Class Records. This shows as much as anything that...

    How good is Ryan Harris?

Beast of a player and number 2 bowler in the world for me. It'll be hard for him to go down as an ATG since he likely won't be around much longer but if he plays the World Cup and delivers a performance that helps Australia win as well as helps Australia hold the Ashes I could see him forcing...

If he's such a concern that he needs to be rested after one Test then he probably shouldn't be playing at all. IMO give him this test and the start of the Tri Series. Then rest him either mid way or at the end of the series so he's fresh for the World cup. Unless I'm mistaken there should be...

Maxwell's stats might look good but he's spent most of the time coming in at 7 or 8 for the Vics at First Class level. He's definitely got talent but shouldn't be anywhere near the Test side and should be looking to promote himself up the Vic order if he wants to get serious about Test cricket...

Early on in his career Burns batted 4-5 and actually failed when given a run at 3. He only started opening after getting dropped and then forcing his way back in. The only reason he became an opener IMO is because QLD had settled players in the middle order (Khawaja, Forrest, Lynn...

First chance I've had to watch this Test and at this rate I won't even get to see Haze bowl. :( Edit: well nvm.

Dhawan got hit on the forearm in the nets supposedly.

I'd agree with this. If the plan is to stack all rounders the likelihood is that they're not likely to be that effective overseas anyway. Mitch Marsh and Glenn Maxwell are good examples of this in the UAE. If you're frontline bowlers (Johnson, Siddle, Starc and Lyon) aren't taking wickets in...

Regardless of Australia's position in this match everything feels right with the world. Haze 5fer The Peoples Captain scoring runs Starc no flukey wickets Watson failing again Shaun Marsh failing A Joe Burns call up would just about complete things IMO.

There was light rain in the area last night (I live a few hours away though so don't know if rained at the Gabba) and conditions IMO are probably more oppressive today than yesterday because of increased humidity. Tomorrow should be similar with things cooling down significantly over the...

Haze and Starc should be good to bowl but M Marsh won't bowl for the rest of the match. He might be able to field/bat. Australia v India, 2nd Test, Brisbane, 1st day : Injured Mitchell Marsh won't bowl again in Test | Cricket News | Australia v India | ESPN Cricinfo

    Australia's squad

Watson Warner/Finch (probably depends on who does better in the tri series) Smith Clarke Bailey/Voges (if Bailey doesn't show any form Voges comes in) Marsh/Maxwell/Faulkner (leaning towards Marsh with Faulkner as a replacement bowler) Keeper (idc who) Johnson Starc Harris Hazlewood Cummins...

Joe Burns would most likely be on the radar but I doubt the selectors want to go with him just yet. While he hasn't had a truly poor season at Shield level throughout his career this year is the first year that he's actually gunned it with a 50+ average. He's typically scored 2 centuries a...

    david warner v matthew hayden

I don't think it was a matter of his confidence being shattered. Australia had plenty of other opening options to give chances to (Taylor, Slater, Elliot, Langer etc) and Hayden had to both force himself back into the side and wait for them to drop off before getting another chance.

Bailey can barely score runs in the Shield atm and isn't really a lock for the ODI team either (hasn't done much since the Indian tour last year). If Clarke is fit for the World Cup I could see him missing out if he doesn't get back into form soon.

Will be interesting to see who captains for Australia. IMO it'd be a good opportunity for Smith to get a run while we've still got other experienced players around (Haddin, Harris etc) who may not be around post Ashes.

The Clarke injury article said that Starc has been added to the squad and didn't mention Hazlewood so I'd assume he's still there. My guess is the selectors are dropping Siddle for Hazlewood so Starc is in as backup for Harris or Johnson which given the short turn around between Tests isn't a...

IMO India are better off stacking their batting with Rohit than bringing in another poor bowling option. While our batting was excellent this Test it was really only Warner, Smith and Clarke (not available for the rest of the series) . Warner and Smith are going to fail eventually and having the...

    Potential International Trades

For Australia I'd probably try Pattinson for Pujara. Reasonably established players but unfortunately Patto has been held back due to injuries. Could add an extra bowler like Hilfenhaus or similar to try sweeten the deal. Otherwise one of Bird/Cummins for one of Rohit Sharma/James Taylor...
