    Australian Domestic Season 2016/17

Voges retiring from State cricket as well. Will keep playing county cricket.

    ***Official*** Australia in India 2017

That's pretty much what I would go with except I'd have Lyon over Swepson and Nevill over Wade. If Lyon stinks it up for the first 2 tests I'd give Swepson a run and see what he can do.

    Career-saving performances

What about Steve Smith's first Test century in the 2013 English Ashes? Up until that point he'd made 3 or 4 50s since being recalled and plenty of other bats were being dropped at the time (Cowan, Hughes, Khawaja).

Sabotage! Peter Nevill taken to hospital with suspected broken jaw | Cricket | ESPN Cricinfo "The Melbourne Renegades' wicketkeeper Peter Nevill was taken to the hospital after a freak incident at the Adelaide Oval where he was struck in the face by Brad Hodge's bat."

    Australian Test Selection 2016/2017

Just go with Maxwell, O'Keefe, Starc, Hazlewood and Lyon. M Marsh has 2 wickets from 5 games in Asia. Maxwell has 7 wickets from 3 games. Not a big sample but M Marsh's bowling is overrated in these conditions IMO.

    Glenn Maxwell - polarising figure

I agree with most of the above. I think he has massive talent and probably should have been given more of a chance than he has so far (especially when you consider the opportunities M Marsh was given). IMO though he'll probably find it hard to get into the Test team since he rarely plays First...

    Australian Test Selection 2016/2017

IMO our best chance of competing is stacking the batting and getting runs on the board. Pretty much all of our failures are when our batting fails and the bowling has nothing to work with. At least this time we've sort of learnt from the Sri Lankan series and have S Marsh and Handcombe as...

    Australian Test Selection 2016/2017

If our batting pans out things could get interesting if Pattinson is fit and in form. While conditions won't favour pace he produced a good spell last time and Starc did well in Sri Lanka. Hazlewood might not be effective but if those two are threatening all he needs to do is keep things tight...

Players who were indisputably the best of their time

I'd put McGrath in there from 2000-2007 when it comes to fast bowling. After the retirements of Donald, Akram, Ambrose and co you've basically got McGrath ahead of Gillespie and Pollock then a lot of guys who tend to be brilliant one series and poor the next.

Your World Test XI for all conditions as of December 2016

I'd go with the below. Warner Vijay Williamson Root Smith Kohli (c) Bairstow (+) Starc Broad Steyn Herath Can pretty much swap the fab 4 around as desired. Second opener was tough and it's tempting to stick Root there and go for ABdV or an all rounder at 6. Bairstow gets the gloves simply by...

    Australian Test Selection 2016/2017

Personally I'd be up for some changes. Never been a big fan of forcing an all rounder into the team unless they genuinely warrant selection in 1 discipline so I'll go 6-1-4. Given that older/experienced players haven't been standing up I'd go with the below and look at sticking with the newbies...

Who is the best left handed batsman in the world currently?

IMO Darren Bravo is being underrated a bit here. I certainly wouldn't have him as the best left handed player and his overall stats don't look great but he averages 50 away from home (under 30 at home) with at least 1 century everywhere bar England and Sri Lanka so far. If he played for a semi...

    Australian Test Selection 2016/2017

Nah I don't think we need a fifth bowler. If this attack can't take 20 wickets than M Marsh isn't likely to offer much more, Smith and Voges can bowl the odd over at the end of a session and before the new ball is due. This balance might also encourage our groundsman to put a bit more life in...

    Australian Test Selection 2016/2017

Poor Nev. On top of the above let's not forget the guys still a relative noob in the team (Wade was previously kept around as reserve keeper etc on quite a few tours). M Marsh while not having many more games has been around the side for much longer and has a lot more exposure in these types of...

best team in world cricket right now

I don't think there's a clear best team at the moment. If you had to twist my arm I'd say Pakistan are slightly ahead but that will probably change in the next 12 months. The retirements of Misbah and Younis will hurt Pakistan significantly though so when this happens I can see them sliding...

    Australian Test Selection 2016/2017

Dropping both Burns and Khawaja was pretty poor IMO. Both are pretty good long term prospects who could actually benefit from continued exposure in these conditions and a jammy 50 or so could probably do their confidence some good for next year. That said while I'm not a fan of SMarsh I don't...

ICC seriously considers 2 divisions,7/5 split.

On top of the general performance of the teams 7 has probably been chosen due to scheduling. With every team having to play a 2 Test series every 2 years 8 teams starts cutting into ODIs, T20s and Domestic T20 leagues. It also reduces the room for separate series like the Ashes etc.

Aw no, Watt0's retired (from Tests)

I've generally thought that his main problem was not his batting position but his injury situation. When he was genuinely solid for those few years (2009-2011 if memory serves) that was also a time where he didn't miss much if any cricket due to injuries. From when NZ/India toured onward though...

Modern Australian XI (dayboo post Border's debut) Border- Clarke

Taylor * Hayden Ponting Smith S Waugh Clarke Gilchrist + Harris Warne Gillespie McGrath Was either Clarke or Hussey for 6. Went with Clarke since he adds an extra bowling option.
