    All-Time World XIs: Discussion Thread

Who the **** is us? Second new ball goes to the same two new ball bowlers who got it the first time around. There's a reason no one chooses Miller over Sobers for the first team, the same argument applies here. You're the same individual who, when I mentioned that Sobers would come on second...

    All-Time World XIs: Discussion Thread

Key words "if true" Who the **** is this "our" you always manage to come up with. I very much answered your questions, just not the way you want. You're not selecting Barnes and Ambrose to give the new ball to Miller. And especially not to justify an unwise selection.

How important are runs from number 8?

The first part was obvious, as has been noted by everyone in the thread this far. The second part is the kind of shite you normally post and that Coronis seem intent on liking. 1. The teams and lists that I've used is from a post and thread from last year, discussing just that, the best post...

How important are runs from number 8?

Yes, they and SA are the outliers from the perspective of the ones with actual depth. But similar to how Langer and especially Haydos are perceived, don't think they're averaging that high in any other era.

Yes, based on your extensive observations of his bowling? Or his expert dismantling of a minnow level SA team? Or his extensive success in the sub continent?

It has nothing to do with Kallis. That the difference between you and I. It's not personality based. The fifth bowling role,.especially with this attack wouldn't get enough of the ball to justify the dropping of an ATG batsman. And giving Miller the new ball over Ambrose or Barnes (shouldn't...

    Harry brook era

Like it's never mentioned for Hammond, Sobers, Simpson, Kallis, Taylor etc etc.? But if you don't think being the best in the world at the most critical fielding position, is an important distinction, that's fine too.

    Harry brook era

Think Markram has been impressive everytime time I seen him.

How important are runs from number 8?

So without player overlap, I've tried to figure out what were the arguably the top 10 teams of all time. Trying to rank them, but also not claiming the list is perfect or the lineups are the absolute best, but tried to use the best lineups that actually took the field. 2002 Australia Hayden |...

    Harry brook era

In all of this (comparatively very brief) discussion of the Harry Brook era, has anyone mentioned that that on top of his batting, that's he arguably one of the top 2 slip fielders in the world right now?

How much did slip cordons affect Marshall's and Wasim's records?

No it couldn't have. Diabetes and the only AT pacer that ever had to deal with such lack of cordon support.

Was Everton Weekes an ATG test batsman?

    Ok, that was funny.

    Best Captain

Don't think any of them were great captains, and some were surprisingly awful. Think Smith is easily the best tactically, but the incident kinda disqualifies him? If no, then him. Otherwise Viv.

How much did slip cordons affect Marshall's and Wasim's records?

Because most things aren't. But yeah, it had to impact him, and the team

It also has a batting lineup that doesn't compete with the first one. And with a bowling attack that includes Barnes and Murali, a superior bowler will be giving up overs to give Miller enough overs to justify his selection. Miller was most effective with the new ball, you're giving him the...

    All-Time World XIs: Discussion Thread

I swear to God that you loose all objectivity or logic to understand what's being said. Didn't say it goes by ranking, didn't say you rank the players and that's how they're selected. What I said was, and shouldn't have to repeat it because it was verbatim, If Imran Khan is as some people...

Who down plays McGrath's achievements btw?

How much did slip cordons affect Marshall's and Wasim's records?

McGrath, Hadlee, Lillee, Steyn, Ambrose, Warne etc etc etc. Moreover and more importantly, the teams wouldn't have been as good either. Each of those guys had at least two AT slips in their cordons. Who would have guessed that a great cordon upgrades the level of the bowling as well as the...
