5 greatest cricketers since Don’s retirement.

I'm disappointed with your incredulity. http://www.cricketweb.net/forum/threads/russel-arnold-fan-club.88959/

5 greatest cricketers since Don’s retirement.

Opted for bowlers. Mainly because they’re better and more important than batsmen. If I had to stretch to batsmen, then Aravinda, Lara, Arnold, Gooch and Sir Viv.

    English Domestic Season 2025

Well, I'm afraid to say my prediction was correct. Not helped by absences to rest not to play for England, childbirth absences and most players having worse seasons than last year. Hard to see how we avoid relegation now. I don't think the overseas signings have been the most useful either...

Cricket stuff that doesn't deserve its own thread

It has happened in other sports and perhaps it hasn't happened in cricket as the opportunities are much tighter. There have definitely been games in the past where the use of a runner was somewhat dubious. Bloodgate is probably the most infamous example I can think of off the top of my head...

*Official* Australia Tour of West Indies 2025

Concentration is on the decline. I think that’s why we’re seeing more spectacular catches taken than ever, but a decline in regulation catches taken in Test cricket. The concentration required for a full day in the field is now somewhat lacking.

    2025-26 New Zealand domestic season

Sam Morgan got a Wellington contract. He'd been scoring runs for fun in first grade and for Wellington A so that's probably a decent call. Wellington still look pretty light on seam bowling depth so Paranjpe better hit the ground running!

    2025-26 New Zealand domestic season

Johnson did look as if he needed a reset after last season. Seems Otago is the go-to place for such things.

*Official* Australia Tour of West Indies 2025

I like Roston Chase, but he’s getting up there in the worst to play 50 Tests stakes too. Ashraful still takes the cake, but he’s probably in the discussion.

*Unofficial* New Zealand Black Caps Thread

Absolutely agree about T20Is, but do still very much enjoy the Super Smash. I'd be very happy for Sky to take the T20Is if the Super Smash remains on TVNZ.

*Unofficial* New Zealand Black Caps Thread

There was a big fanfare on RNZ this morning about the Summer of cricket ahead. However, looking at the schedule it seems there's no international cricket between new year and March. So, the peak season doesn't have any locally player international cricket? Have I missed something? A 3-Test...

    Help - I have a Drafting Dilemma

If you'd picked Russel Arnold or Neil Johnson, I would have chucked you a vote. Looking at the selections, I'd argue you had a few guys who could be quite flakey on their day. Most of that top order could go big, but no one was ever thinking of getting Ian Bell to bat for their life. That's not...

    1st Test (Leeds) - 20th June

Dale at 8 is pretty nosebleed stuff. I looked up the 1995 Ashes Test where Angel/McDermott/McGrath batted together and it was pretty amusing that England had to resort to run outs for all 4 dismissals of those tailenders (including Angel as nightwatchman)...

    1st Test (Leeds) - 20th June

Hmmm. In 1995, they had Jo Angel, Craig McDermott and Glenn McGrath as 9-11. But Warne at 8 and Healy at 7 is still pretty good.

    From the Pavilion

I might give a batting boost as some point to even up a technique shortfall or something. Generally though with the fasties or wrist-spinners, I tend to focus on making them bowlers first as they have some advantages over mediums or finger spinners. I might train a RM or RFS differently - more...

    From the Pavilion

Got a pretty wow youth pull this week. Best in ages. With him being RF, sturdy and already having decent power, I'll be training him up to be a bowling all-rounder I reckon. RFs are massively valuable. I'll train fielding until Tech pops to Average and then onto Bowling to start with. Bernardo...

    2025-26 New Zealand domestic season

Expect guys like Bradley Scott to come out of retirement - perfectly placed in the age bracket.

    English Domestic Season 2025

A second ton for young Charlie Allison. The main bright spot in an otherwise hapless season for Essex thus far.

    Cricket obituaries

I see Syd Lawrence has passed away. I always liked him as a cricketer, but then I did always have a love for raw speed merchants and at times he was one of those. It was a sad day when his kneecap blew up at the Basin Reserve. Guessing it didn't help that he bowled 27 overs in the first innings...

    *Official* Emerging Nations Cricket Thread

I was only having a chat with @Dick Rockett last week about *that World Cup final* and why it didn't afford the luxury of a 2nd set of super overs. I'm sure he'll be over the moon that this problem has clearly been resolved.

England players and selection discussion thread

I see Tongue picked up an injury playing for England A. Might disrupt his chances for making the Test line-up.
